D.S. Warner

D.S. Warner (1842 - 1895)

Daniel Sydney Warner is known primarily as a church reformer and one of the founders [1] of the Church of God (Anderson) and other similar church groups. He is also known for some of his songs which other church groups have incorporated into their hymnody. He is mostly known by only the initials of his given and middle name, D. S. Warner, which was typical for his time period.

On April 22, 1881, Warner "came out" of all holiness associations, saying, "We were positively denied membership [in any holiness association] on the ground of not adhering to any sect. And now we wish to announce to all that we wish to cooperate with all Christians, as such, in saving souls—but forever withdraw from all organisms that uphold and endorse sects and denominations in the body of Christ." "Anti-sectarianism" would become a watchword for his followers for many years afterward. His detractors would call his movement, the "come-outers".

(Salvation) 1. What does it mean?

O reader, have you given attention to that which is contained in the word SALVATION? O man, think of this; it concerns you more than all other objects taken together for which the whole world is in pursuit. Salvation is worth a thousand times more than health of body; in comparison with which men co... Read More

(Salvation) 11. Leaves no cloak for sin

By nearly all sin serving professors it is admitted that the Bible requires us to be pure and holy, and to live free from sin. But most of them claim that we can not in this life meet those requirements. That the commands, "be ye holy," "be ye perfect," etc., are simply set before us as the standard... Read More

(Salvation) 12. Promises of salvation

As we have already observed, it is generally admitted that God's word demands of all men to live holy and sinless lives. But foolish men look at these high commands of God, then at their inward proneness to evil and impotency in that which is good; and also look at the world of wicked forces around ... Read More

The infinite wisdom and actual divinity of the Holy Bible is wonderfully demonstrated in this fact. No other book on earth is both instructive, interesting, and never exhausted; both by ignorant and learned, by youth and mature minds. With this great truth stamped upon the hearts of the apostles and early ministers, they made all speed to carry the glad tidings of a perfect, free, and present salvation to all men. (Salvation) 2. Deliverance

The entrance of sin into our world has brought in its train indescribable wretchedness. Guilt and remorse sting the conscience and fill the soul with shame. There is a late creed comprising what is called " The Fourfold Gospel."
