David Wilkerson is an American Christian evangelist, most well-known for his book The Cross and the Switchblade. He is also the founder of Times Square Church in New York, an interdenominational church.

Wilkerson is well-known for these early years of his ministry to young drug addicts and gang members in New York City in the 1950s and 1960s. He co-authored a book about his work with the New York drug addicts, The Cross and the Switchblade, which became a best-seller, selling over 50 million copies in over thirty languages since it was published in 1963. The book was included among the 100 most important Christian books of the 20th century.

For over four decades, Wilkerson's ministry has included preaching, teaching and writing. He has authored over 30 books.

David Wilkerson is the founder and president of World Challenge, Inc., a nonprofit organization incorporated on September 22, 1971. Reverend Wilkerson, the author of over thirty inspirational books, is perhaps best known for his early days of ministry to young drug addicts and gang members in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn. His story is told in The Cross and the Switchblade, a book he co-authored which became a best-seller. (The story has been read by over 50 million people in some thirty languages and 150 countries since 1963. In 1969, a motion picture of the same title was released.)

For over four decades, Reverend Wilkerson's evangelistic ministry has included preaching, teaching and writing. Throughout that time a distinctive characteristic of his work has been his direct efforts to reach the neediest members of the population with help for both body and soul. Even now, the almost 70 year-old minister often goes out alone or sometimes with an assistant to walk through the streets of New York City, along Broadway and Eighth Avenue or down 42nd Street and nearby "Crack Alley" on 41st Street. His mission is always to seek out the lost, the disoriented, and the addicted , to tell them of the power of the risen Christ to set them free.

David Wilkerson, born in Hammond, Indiana on May 19, 1931, was married in 1953 to Gwen Carosso. The Wilkersons' two sons are ministers, and their two daughters are married to ministers. They have 11 grandchildren. The Wilkersons served small pastorates in Scottsdale and Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, until Reverend Wilkerson saw a photograph in Life magazine of several New York City teenagers charged with murder. Moved with compassion he was drawn to the city in February 1959. It was at that time he began his street ministry to what one writer called "desperate, bewildered, addicted, often violent youth.

A Call To Anguish (Text Transcription)

A Call to Anguish (by David Wilkerson, 9/15/2002) Would you open your Bibles to the first chapter of Nehemiah please? Please just leave that open on your lap. We’ll get to it in the course of my message. I would have a hard time preaching this if I believe my own flesh telling me that I preached too... Read More

A Call to Grief

I am convinced that the only way to experience the fullness of the joy of Jehovah is to share His grief. God does grieve over sin, and those who truly walk with Him enter into His grief. In the days of Noah, "God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth," and that every imagination of t... Read More

A Call to Set Our Hearts on God

Jeremiah the prophet was a man who set his heart to seek the Lord, and the Word of God came to him. Over and over we read of the prophet, “The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.” Many commentators call Jeremiah the weeping prophet, and that was certainly true of him. But he also brought us the happi... Read More

A Cheap Cut-Rate Gospel!

"And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. A Christless Pentecost

The following is a prophetic warning from Azusa Street 75 years ago, concerning the dangers of a Chrisiless Pentecost! Frank Bartleman was an eyewitness to the out-pouring of the Holy Spirit in 1907 at Azusa Street, Los Angeles. He has been characterized as the Reporter of the Azusa Street Revival. ... Read More

A CLEARER VISION OF CHRIST

The book of Daniel mentions several benefits for those who have a repentant heart. Indeed, for all who acknowledge their sin, God does the miraculous. One such benefit is a new and clearer vision of Jesus. Read what happened after Daniel's repentance prayer in Daniel 9: “Then I lifted up mine eyes, ... Read More

A Cloud Of Witnesses

Hebrews 12:1 tells us that the world is encircled by a cloud of witnesses who are with Christ in glory. What does this multitude of heavenly witnesses have to say to the present world? We live in a generation that is far more wicked than Noah’s. What can these witnesses say to a human race whose sin... Read More

A CONSPIRACY OF INTERRUPTIONS

All hell quakes at the effectual, fervent prayer of a single believer. The powerful praying of just one intercessor sounds like raging thunder in the caverns of the damned. Not one inch of space in hell remains unaffected by a believer who denies himself, takes up his cross, and follows Christ with ... Read More

A Conspiracy of Interruptions

We hear a lot about conspiracies in our society — schemes aimed at destroying both democracy in America and Christianity. The heart of God is not troubled by such conspiracies, but there is one conspiracy that does concern our heavenly Father. It is satanic and is aimed directly at Christians who ha... Read More

A CONTRITE SPIRIT

Why did God look so favorably upon Jacob, a deceiver? We read in Isaiah: "I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones" (Isaiah 57:15). This passage describes a man who, lik... Read More

A Cry Against Wicked Youth!

"Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me" (Jonah 1:2). A Cry is Rising

God wants to break through to his people. As Scripture predicts, the devil has come down with great wrath, knowing his time is short. Right now, God’s people need a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit; a supernatural touch even greater than the one at Pentecost. The cry that is called for today was ... Read More

A Daily Increase from God

Most believers claim to live by faith and not by feelings, but in everyday practice, many do measure their spiritual lives by the way they feel. A Dangerous Habit

I once preached a sermon about our need to show love to those closest to us. I spoke about the sinfulness of being easily provoked — and the Holy Spirit convicted me of that very sin in my own life. A Desire to Depart

These mortal bodies of ours are but mere shells and the life is not in the shell. It is a temporary confine that enshrouds an ever-growing, ever-maturing life force and acts as a transient guardian of the life inside. A Drink Offering!

It is amazing how the Word of God literally cries out against the way a majority of Christians live today.
