Elmer Ellsworth Shelhamer

Elmer Ellsworth Shelhamer (1869-1940) was an American and an evangelist with the Free Methodists in the latter 19th and early 20th centuries. He wrote many practical and forceful tracts and pamphlets and also a few books.

I have known Rev. E. E. Shelhamer for a number of years, and I have no doubt as to his ability and fitness for such a work. As Rev. H. C. Morrison has said, "He is strikingly original, truly scriptural, powerfully in earnest and reaches the heart of the people as few men we have heard, but always in the spirit of love and tenderness." Brother Shelhamer has a special gift of selection; he knows when and how to garner the best fruit He knows where the apples grow. With the splendid array of talent he has called to his assistance, we would have been surprised with anything but the best results.

The Death of the Soul

Text: "The soul that sinneth, it shall die." -- Ezek. 18:4. It becomes the duty of the faithful ambassador of Christ, to speak, not only of the glories of heaven, but of the horrors of hell; not only of the felicities of the redeemed, but of the torments of the damned. I am to speak to you tonight o... Read More

The Value of Tribulation

Text: "In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." John 16:33. The original meaning of tribulation is to flail, to thrash; so that it would not change the meaning of the text if I were to read it thus: "In the world, ye shall have flailings, but be of go... The Witness of the Spirit

Text: "The Spirit himself beareth witness with our spirit that we are children of God." Rom. 8:16. (R. V.) "Hereby know we that we dwell in him and he in us because he hath given us of his Spirit." 1 John 4:13. This is a very much neglected theme. In early Methodism it was one of the principal sloga...
