Miles J. Stanford

Miles J. Stanford (1914 - 1999)

Was a Christian author best known for his classic collection on spirituality, The Green Letters, published in 1964. Theologically, Stanford called himself Pauline and Dispensationalism. He drew upon the written ministries of William Newell, Lewis Sperry Chafer, and a number of the original Plymouth Brethren, in particular John Nelson Darby.

Because of Stanford's focus upon the doctrinal content of the Pauline Epistles, some evangelicals have erroneously identified him with hyper-dispensationalism. To address this, Stanford published numerous papers during the 1980s and 1990s clarifying the distinctive tenets of "Pauline Dispensationalism." A collection of fourteen papers were collected into his 1993 book of the same name. Stanford typically signed his letters with his hallmark salutation, "Resting in Him."

"PEACE ON EARTH"

"Let the peace of God rule in your hearts " (Colossians 3:15). Peace does not, and cannot, exist in the fallen Adam life; and as long as the old man reigns within, there is going to be turmoil both within and without. The path of the Cross is alone the path of peace. "The moment came when the Lord J... Read More

"RISE UP, MY LOVE"

"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth" (Colossians 3:2). It is sad to have to say that the present-day Church is so earthy that it is of little earthly good. "Sir, we would see Jesus"! (John 12:21). "The great failure of the Church was in giving up Paul. 'All. . . in Asia' ... Read More

ACCESSIBILITY

"For we. . . worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh" (Philippians 3:3) Failure to live the Christian life is due to one's utter inability, but it is all governed by the Father. He teaches us to become proficient in failure (within ourselves), in o... Read More

ACCUSATION

"Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1). There will be no standing against the enemy's accusations until we are firmly assured of, and settled on, the fact that our Father is at peace with us because of our living union with His Belove... AFFLICTION'S EFFECT

"But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ " (Philippians 3:7). Our Father has many reasons for administering trial— all good. Trial teaches us the futility of the old life, and the faithfulness of the Lord Jesus-our new life. "The Christian suffers the same calamities as othe... Read More

ALL GLORY TO GOD

"Whether, therefore, ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God " (1 Corinthians 10:31). The present and eternal ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Son; the past, present, and future ministry of the Son is to glorify the Father. Our life and ministry will bring glor... ANOTHER, ALTOGETHER

"This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him" (Matthew 17:5). Seeing the blackness of my heart provides the perfect backdrop for the bright and shining glory of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is my life. I am to be as well pleased with Him, and Him alone, as is my Father. "The learnin... Read More

Apostle Paul's Teaching on the Law

The believer will remain in bondage as long as he does not know that through the Cross he has been delivered from the reign of the old man, the law, the world, and the Enemy. We have already discussed the Adam-life. In this chapter we will deal with the law, both as commandment and as a principle. P... Read More

APPLICABLE APPLICATION

"Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort" (2 Corinthians 1:3). We have all cringed at the sad spectacle of the "nouveau riche." And yet many of us as believers present the same failure--flaunting and mishandling our spiritual riches... Read More

BEHOLD, THE MAN!

"[God] hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus " (Ephesians 2:6). There aren't many truly happy Christians simply because there aren't many who really abide in the Lord Jesus Christ. Our risen Lord is the source of our happiness as we rest in Him-trium... Read More

BELOVED ENEMY

"Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us; for it is written, Cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree" (Galatians 3:13). The legal Christian considers the law to be his best friend who will enable him to live righteously. But in reality the law, in the hands of ... Read More

BELOVED OBJECT

"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus" (Ephesians 2:10). The Holy Spirit creates within us a hatred for the old nature, and a hunger for the new nature. Without a rejection of the old, there cannot be a projection of the new. "I want a testimony that delivers me from the things I am o... Read More

BIRTH: SAVIOR; GROWTH: SPIRIT

"Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh" (Galatians 5:16). We receive life by reliance upon the Savior; we grow in that life by reliance upon the Spirit. CHRIST OUR POSITION

"In [this] freedom Christ has made us free–completely liberated us; stand fast then" (Galatians 5:1, Amp.). CHURCH PLIGHT

"For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God" (Acts 20:27). In regard to the external Cross, the obvious fact is that "Christ died for our sins." "Having therefore, brethren, boldness enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus" (Hebrews 10:19). CROSS PURPOSES

"The Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and guard you from evil" (2 Thessalonians 3:3, R.V.). "For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty" (Galatians 5:13). Our "No" to the old will be absolutely ineffective unless we are standing upon the facts of the new.
