Back in the Old Testament, the Israelites were often instructed by God to fight against their enemies, promising them that He would be with them. However, in the New Testament, a “new” commandment was given by the Lord Jesus Christ.

In His sermons, Christ taught not to fight back, but instead “give the other cheek.” Instead of fighting and hurting other people who hurt and use them, He encouraged His followers to forgive, love, and pray for them. What does this mean?

The normal response to pain or conflict is to fight back and inflict the same pain. However, as followers of Jesus, we are expected to be a strange kind of people. Instead of fighting back, we pray and forgive those who hurt us.

This kind of lifestyle will stand out and make us different compared to most people. This is one way to show to other people the love that we received from God.
