For many centuries, man has wondered how he can get closer to God. Some men believe it is through their good works, while others believe is through service in the church. However, the Bible clearly teaches that neither of these two are God-ordained ways for salvation.
Arguably the most popular verse in the Bible is John 3:16, and it is popular for a reason. If we study the verse carefully, it encapsulates a lot of truths that man should know. It also mentions that the only way for a man to receive eternal life from God is to believe on His only begotten Son.
Faith in Jesus Christ is the way to be saved. Is good works bad? No. Is going to church bad? No. But these are not enough to breach the great divide between God and man. Only Jesus Christ, who became man, was able to bridge the gap.
