Daily Light on the Daily Path or Daily Light is a Christian daily devotional scripture reading published by Bagster & Sons about 1875. It has been reprinted continually since then. It consists of brief groupings of scripture passages which speak to prominent Biblical themes—two themes (morning and evening) for each day of the year. "In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength." Isaiah 30:15 It is always weakness to be fretting and worrying, questioning and mis-trusting. What can we do if we wear ourselves to skin and bone? Can we gain anything by fearing and fuming? Do we not unfit ourselves for action and unhinge our minds for wise decision? We are sinking by our struggles when we might float by faith. Oh, for grace to be quiet! Why run from house to house to repeat the weary story which makes us more and more heart-sick as we tell it? Why even stay at home to cry out in agony because of wretched forebodings which may never be fulfilled? It would be well to keep a quiet tongue, but it would be far better if we had a quiet heart. Oh, to be still and know that Jehovah is God! Oh, for grace to be confident in God! The holy One of Israel must defend and deliver His own. He cannot run back from His solemn declarations. We may make sure that every word of His will stand though the mountains should depart. He deserves to be confided in; and if we would display confidence and consequent quietness, we might be as happy as the spirits before the throne. Come, my soul, return unto thy rest, and lean thy head upon the bosom of the LORD Jesus.

A Quiet Heart

QUIETNESS is expressive of submission to the holy will of God, and supposes a waiting upon Him as directed by His word. It is the believer's duty to be silent before God while He is working, being assured that his best interests are secured by the promises, and that all things will be made plain by-and-bye. He should confide in the Lord's word, and rely on the Lord's wisdom, love, and ability. Our confidence must arise from God's word, a review of His dealings with His people, and the relation in which He stands to us. We may be confident, for God, who has spoken is true, and hath confirmed His word in every generation. Quietly confiding in God will give us strength; we then put His love and faithfulness to the trial; we honour Him by our confidence, and He will honour us by appearing for us. Let us endeavour to be still, to be silent before Him, when He is raised up out of His holy habitation. Let us wait for Him, for it is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord. Beware of complaining or replying against God. When, my Saviour, shall I be Totally resign'd to Thee? Poor and vile in my own eyes, Only in Thy wisdom wise, Only guided in Thy light, Only mighty in Thy might!

In 1870, an invitation was extended to American religious leaders for scholars to work on the RV project.
