When Abraham was 99 years old, God was still promising him that he would become a dad and he would be the father to many nations - can you believe it? 
 
- In what ways can turning on a light switch be an act of faith? What does it promise? Why do we trust it to do that? 
- What is the most incredible promise you have heard in advertising? What were they advertising? What did the ad promise the product would do? 
- When you listen to advertising in the media, do you tend to believe or disbelieve what they are promising? Why do you do that? 
- Do you generally find it easier or more difficult to trust the promises people make to you? Can you explain why that is…? 
- How do you think Abraham and Sarah might have felt when God promised that they would be the father and mother of many nations in Genesis 17:1-7, 15,16? How do you think you might have reacted if you were in their place? 
- What are some of the promises God makes to you through Jesus? 
- Do you tend to find them easier or more difficult to believe? Give reasons for your answer… 
- How might your life be different if you trusted God’s promises to you in the same way that Abraham and Sarah trusted God’s promise to them?

Genesis 17:1-7,15,16 God's Unbelievable Promise

As we start a new year with a lot of uncertainty, we can find security in life by hanging on to God's promises to us in Jesus. 
 
- What are some things that children you know might hang on to for a sense of security and safety? 
- What are some things that adults you know might hang on to for a sense of security and safety? 
- Have the things the adults have hung on to been able to give them the security or safety they were hoping for? Why or why not do you think that happened? 
- What do you hang on to for security in your life? Is it able to give you what you hope for? Why or why not? 
- Why do you think the author of Psalm 102 finds security in God? What is it about God that can provide this security? 
- When you think about the character of God that we see in Jesus, what about him doesn’t change that can help us find security in him? 
- What are you most worried about in 2021? How might faith in Jesus help you find the security you hope for?

Psalm 102:24-28 Secure Living

Ezekiel promises us that God will send a shepherd who will bring justice by searching for the lost, bringing back the strays, binding up the injured and giving strength to the weak. 
 
- Where might you have seen people pushing others out of the way to get something they wanted? Why do people do that? Is that just the way the world works, or do you hope for something better? 
- Are there any times when you might have behaved like the strong sheep in Ezekiel 34:11-24 – in your relationships? at your school, university, or work? in our church? 
- How might Ezekiel’s words in this passage give you comfort or hope? Explain why they might do that… 
- In what ways might Ezekiel’s words warn us? What kind of change do you think God might like to see in us as the result of this warning?

When Jesus died on the cross, the curtain which restricted access to God's presence in the Temple was torn in two, opening up the way for people to have a new relationship with God through faith. 
 
- Where are some places you might see a ‘Keep Out’ sign? What do you think it would it be like to have a ‘Keep Out’ sign on a church – would that be good or bad? Why? 
- For a long time, people had to keep out of God’s presence because of sin. Would that make you happy or sad? Why might it make you feel that way? 
- In Hebrews 10:19-20, what takes away the ‘Keep Out’ sign and makes it possible for us to go into God’s presence? How did that happen? 
- Hebrews 10:22-25 describes some of the things we can do now that we have access into God’s presence. What are they?
