Before we begin a new sermon series next week, let’s pause long enough today to allow God, through His Word, to make sure our hearts and minds are refocused on what is most important.

Is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, worth following? He taught with authority, healed the sick, commanded the unclean spirits, fed the multitudes, calmed the sea, walked on water and raised the dead. He was also betrayed, abandoned, denied, tried, convicted, mocked, beaten and crucified. But there is one last story we all must wrestle with to determine if we will follow Him.

Mark not only gives us the facts of Jesus’ crucifixion, but also introduces us to the people who surrounded Jesus during this time. Soldiers, criminals, religious leaders, bystanders, men, women and one Roman Centurion. It is a reminder that even though these people responded differently to Him, He was giving His life as a ransom for them all...including you and me.
