These verses describe people who are ‘wide awake’ spiritually in a world of people who are ‘sleepy’ spiritually.  As certainly as Christ is ‘the dawn’ of a new era and ushers in ‘the day,’ Christ’s followers are ready for Christ’s coming.  Preparation for the day should not focus on predicting ‘the day’ (5:1), but celebrate the gifts of Christ’s grace which clothes them in the spiritual battle—faith, love & hope (5:8).  Where such evidences begin through union with Christ—faith rather than doubt, love rather than hate, hope rather than despair—one can have confidence of Christ’s blessing.  These are evidences that one is ‘awake’ and ready for Christ’s coming and His final judgment.

Week 5(5) Bad Sleep—A People Who Are Wide Awake  ( I Thes 5:4-8)

(Continuation-Last Day) A Creed of Life 
 I. (14a) A Person—‘we believe’ 
 II. (14b) A Procedure-‘we believe’ 
 III. (15) A Promise-‘so we tell you.’ 
We focus on ‘A Promise’ given by God in view of loved ones who have died. 
 Paul had been telling the new Christians at Thessalonica about Christ’s coming again. Paul said it would be like ‘a wedding celebration’ when Christ the bridegroom would return for the bride (His church). Unfortunately, some from the Thessalonian church had died. There was something that brought tears to the eyes of the church members as much as the loss of their loved ones. What if these loved ones missed out on the festivities? (v. 15, 17) 
 We may not have the same concerns expressed in the Thessalonian church. But in view of ‘The Promise’ given by Paul, let us rejoice in the details of that last day. It won’t be long now. 
 
 
 (ie. ‘The Church’ (It had been described by Pawas going to be like a big Wedding Feast, The new Christians in the Thessalonian church wondered For loved ones in Christ, the next time that we will see them, we will be in Christ’s presence. We can be afraid the New Kingdom era because we don’t know what existence will be like.

We focus on ‘A Promise’ given by God in view of loved ones who have died.

Week 5(3)—A Creed of Life (I Thes 4:14-15)  (v. 15—Past III: Promise)

“We believe!” Such words, when we find them in creeds, remind isolated and lonely people that they’re not walking alone. In today’s verses, Paul reminds new believers that they belong in a larger community as they share words and beliefs with other people in view of loved ones who have died. 
 Recognize in I Thes 4:14-15 the phrase, “we believe” (4:14 a,b-twice) and “so we tell you” (v. 15). Find a three-part joy for Christ's community, even in the face of death-- 
 I. (14a) ‘we believe’—A Person 
 II. (14b) ‘we believe’—A Procedure 
 III. (15) ‘so we tell you’—A Promise 
 A family may get excited about a blueprint for a new home, especially when a capable builder is holding the plans. As Paul lingers over this creed, prepare to be encouraged as we meditate on the future plans for resurrection of Jesus Christ, the 'God-Man'. Jesus is ‘The One’ on whom these promises are laid. Christ is the ‘first-born’ from the dead (Col 1:18) and the ‘first-fruits’ for all who have fallen ‘asleep’ (I Cor 15:20). Through trust in Christ, we begin to see our greatest fears about death begin to melt away.
