and with every living creature that was with you: all the birds, the various tame and wild animals that were with you and came out of the ark. 
I will establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all bodily creatures be destroyed by the waters of a flood; there shall not be another flood to devastate the earth. 
God added: This is the sign that I am giving for all ages to come, of the covenant between me and you: I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 
When I bring clouds over the earth, and the bow appears in the clouds, I will recall the covenant I have made between me and you all living beings, so that the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all mortal beings.

Tell the whole community of Israel: On the tenth of this month every one of your families must procure for itself a lamb, one apiece for each household. 
If a family is too small for a whole lamb, it shall join the nearest household in procuring one and shall share in the lamb in proportion to the number of persons who partake of it. 
The lamb must be a year-old male and without blemish. You may take it from either the sheep or the goats. 
You will keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, and then, with the whole assembly of Israel present, it shall be slaughtered during the evening twilight. 
They shall take some of its blood and apply it to the two doorposts and the lintel of every houses in which they partake of the lamb. 
That same night they shall eat its roasted flesh with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 
This is how you are to eat it: with your loins girt, sandals on your feet and your staff in hand, you shall eat like those who are in flight. It is the Passover of the LORD. 
For on this same night I will go through Egypt, striking down every firstborn of the land, both and beast, and executing judgment on all the gods of Egypt, I, the LORD! 
But the blood will mark the houses where you are. Seeing the blood, I will pass over you; thus when I strike the land of Egypt, no destructive blow will come upon you. 
This day shall be a memorial feast for you, which all your generations shall celebrate with pilgrimage to the LORD, as a perpetual institution."

The Lord God took Abram outside and said: Look up at the sky and count the stars, if you can. Just so, he added, shall your descendants be. 
Abram put his faith in the LORD, who credited it to him as an act of righteousness. 
He then said to him, I am the LORD who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as a possession. 
“O Lord GOD,” he asked, “how will I know that I shall possess it?” 
He answered him: Bring me a three-year-old Heifer, a three-year-old she-Goat, a three-year-old ram, a Turtledove, and a young Pigeon. 
Abram brought him all these, split them in two, and placed each half opposite the other; but the birds he did not cut up. 
Birds of prey swooped down on the carcasses, but Abram stayed with them. 
As the sun was about to set, a trance fell upon Abram, and a deep, terrifying darkness enveloped him. 
When the sun had set and it was dark, there appeared a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch, which passed between those pieces. 
It was on that occasion that the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the Great River, the Euphrates.
