In this sermon, Pastor Zack looks at Amos 8:1-14 as Amos presents the fourth of five visions in this final section. In this passage, we see the vision of the summer fruit, signifying that Israel's end is near, followed by a reiteration of the reasons for and the nature of the judgment to come. The end of the passage foretells the coming of a famine of the Word of God — a terrifying and ominous judgment for the people. Pastor Zack helps us understand what Amos is prophesying to the people of Israel in his day and how these things apply to us and our lives today.

Amos 8:1-14 — A Famine in the Land

In this final sermon from the book of Amos, Pastor Zack looks at Amos 9:1-15. In this final chapter of Amos’ prophecy, Amos presents the fifth and final judgment, telling of how the Lord’s judgment is at hand. It will be a judgment that is through, inescapable, and in accordance with God’s character. But in His mercy, the book does not end with destruction, but with restoration. One day, God will restore His people, fulfilling all His promises to them, and displaying His mercy and grace to them.

In this sermon, Pastor Zack looks at Amos 6:1-14 and Amos' second woe section concerning Israel's pride and complacency. Amos warns them — and thus God warns us today — that such prideful complacency is not in step with obedience to Him and must be warned against and repented of. In this sermon, Pastor Zack helps you understand what led to this "being at ease" in Israel, and how we today can avoid the same pitfalls and temptations.

In this sermon, Pastor Zack looks at Amos 5:16-27 and Amos' warning against the danger of self-deception. The Israelites were so self-deceived with false confidence concerning their relationship with God even in the midst of their sin that they had no concept of standing as God's enemies on that Day of Judgment. Amos pointed out their self-deception in light of God's Truth, and in so doing, provides us with helpful questions to examine and assess our own lives.

In this sermon, Pastor Zack looks at Amos 3:1-15 where Amos lays out this principle that great privilege comes with great responsibility. Though the Israelities want to think they are treated differently because they are the "people of God," Amos makes it clear that they, too, will be judged because of their sin and disobedience. In fact, their condemnation is actually heightened because of the great privilege and blessings that the Lord has poured out on them and which they have rejected and abused.

In these verses, Paul turns his attention to the topic of death, and specifically how Christians are to grieve the death of their brothers and sisters in Christ. In short, Christians are to grieve differently and distinctly because of the hope that we have in Christ. In this sermon, Pastor Zack outlines for us what that hope is, and how that hope transforms how we grieve and think about the death of Christians.

Whether it's the pastor in the pulpit or the church member ministering to one another, we are all called to minister as servants of Christ, and thus we will all benefit from learning the marks of a faithful ministry.

In this sermon, Pastor Zack continues our study of 1 Thessalonians 1:6-10 and a life worth imitating. In this sermon, we see from verse 8 that we, like the Thessalonians, are to be a Gospel-Spreading people. What exactly does that look like, though? It looks like the Gospel sounding forth both from our lips as well as our lives.
