Okay...so what's the deal with Darius? And just why exactly were the Jews marking time with this pagan Persian king? Who on earth is Zerubbabel (and what mother would name her child this)? And why was the land not producing as it once was before the exile in Babylon? After 70 years, the remnant was finally back in the homeland, but struggling to survive. The milk and honey had dried up! It seemed as if God didn't care about his people and the Promised Land anymore. The people of Judah must have been astonished to hear Haggai's message. Not to sound irreverent here, but is God crazy? Build a temple? A holy sanctuary? The one like Solomon's? With hardly any resources? This was the command of the Lord and the people were to obey, but how? The Word of the Lord came to Haggai to tell Zerubbabel the governor, Joshua the high priest, and the remnant of Judah that he was with them. Get it? His presence is the most valuable resource! It might not blow your mind to know that God is rich. He's extremely wealthy. In fact, he owns it all. So, just trust and obey. Pastor Chuck Swindoll has an illustration about cleanliness. He says when you wear white gloves and play in the mud, you don't end up with glovey mud!  The prophet Haggai might have used different words, but his message is the same: uncleanliness defiles whatever is around. Therefore, unclean people cannot build a holy temple. Haggai's final two sermons consist of God exhorting his people to come clean with their sins and become a holy nation before him. God also had a specific message for Zerubbabel, the governor. 4. Haggai 2:10-23 - www.SacraScript.org

This lecture begins our exploration of the text of Philippians in order to discover the contribution of this letter to the overall message of the Bible. We will learn that the first passage of Scripture in Philippians is an introduction to the letter. Paul's opening words present the expected identification of author, recipients, and a greeting (1:1-2). Paul then includes an expression of thanksgiving, and gives the reasons for his gratitude to God for the Philippian believers (1:3-8). This leads finally to the content of the prayers Paul raises before God on behalf of these Christians (1:9-11).

We arrive at our last section of the letter of Galatians. In his last words to these believers, Paul continues to examine the Christian life of freedom and presents further clarification on what such freedom looks like in concrete terms. It's as though he is answering the question, how should the Spirit-led life, defined in Galatians 5, affect my interactions with others?

In the previous sections of his letter to the Galatians, we have seen Paul present a barrage of evidence to demonstrate that justification before God is by faith in Jesus Christ apart from works of the law. The remaining verses of chapter 4 conclude this central section of the letter with a series of appeals. Paul's affection for the Galatians and passion for the truth of the gospel are unmistakable. These appeals are full of emotion and are important both for them and for us.

Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Edom is going down, yes. They deserve it, but what is this about all nations? Obadiah takes a turn here in his prophecy and speaks of the judgment of all nations by God in the future. It's almost like God is saying that He is in control of all the nations on earth. Imagine that! This video takes us through the last portion of Obadiah's message. Here we are introduced to the theme "the Day of the Lord," which finds its full significance in the gospel of Christ. So Edom is going to be destroyed, we know that much, but why? What is so bad about a little national pride? In this third teaching video, Rhome van Dyck explains how destructive Edom's pride became, spiraling down into violence toward its brother. As if family violence wasn't bad enough, Edom picked on God's chosen nation, Israel! God speaks through Obadiah and recounts exactly how the brother's feud went down, stating it's only a matter of time before Edom gets its comeuppance. You can't escape a sovereign God.
