Good Morning! 
 
I hope and pray that you all are doing well this morning. First, let's say Happy Mothers' Day to the wonderful mothers in our church. We are so grateful for you! We are so grateful for the ways in which many of you have "mothered" beyond your own families, as you have served our church by pouring into the lives of the next generations! We are so thankful for you mothers who serve the next generation by raising up generations of Christians! 
 
Second, today we're going to continue our study in Hebrews 11 by talking about the main figure in the chapter: Abraham. Now, as you all know, I think Abraham is the main figure in the book of Hebrews that, other than Christ, Christians are called to imitate. And today is no exception. Today we'll see how in some pivotal episodes in his life, God gives us an example of enduring faith in the life of Abraham. So today, can I give you an encouragement? Would you mind looking over Hebrews 11 (especially vs. 8-22) and asking the Lord to teach you from the life of Abraham and his children today? 
 
I cannot wait to see and to worship with all of you wonderful people at 10:30!

Hello Dear Church, 
 
If you've been at our church for any amount of time, you already know the answer to that. "Nothing but the blood of Jesus!" 
 
That very much is the thought of our passage in Hebrews 9:11-28 today. Nothing can wash away our sins but the blood of Jesus. Not the blood of bulls and goats, not the mighty works that we can do, not the self-help nonsense of today's culture. What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. 
 
Today, I encourage you to read through our passage for today before you come to church. Meditate on it, pray on it, think on it, hope on it. And as we gather today, my hope is that you will be enriched by his Word and overpowered by his mighty love for you.

Good Morning, 
 
I hope and pray you were able to get back to sleep after the tornado warning (or slept through it!) last night! This morning, I am looking forward to gathering with you all in the House of the Lord. Now, by that I do not mean our church building (although we have a wonderful and lovely church building!). Rather, by that I mean the people of God. In fact, as Hebrews 3:6 tells us we are the house of God, and we can enter into the temple of God. But that is not the earthly building; it is instead the throne room of God above (Heb 9:11-12). Therefore, I look forward to talking with you more about the temple of God and its purpose from Hebrews 9:1-10, because as we will see, it is an incredibly practical passage for us today. 
 
If you have a chance, can I recommend you read through Hebrews 9:1-10 and ask the Lord to prepare our hearts to see this? And I am sure that by our prayers, when we gather, the Lord will light our way.

Good Morning! 
 
This morning I woke up with the words of an old hymn in my mind, "Nearer my God to thee." This is a beautiful old hymn that tells the yearning that beats in the heart of every true Christian. Particularly stirring is the fourth verse: 
 
"Then, with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise, 
Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise; 
So by my woes to be nearer, my God, to Thee." 
 
Nearer my God to Thee indeed. Out of woes he draws us closer to himself. This is particularly relevant today as we consider the high priesthood of Christ, who "learned obedience through what he suffered." (Heb 5:8) Today as we draw closer to Christ, we ourselves are learning his obedience, and learning our own obedience to our great suffering servant, the Messiah, the Christ. We ourselves are being crucified with him, dying with him, that we might taste the glories of the resurrected Lord. I cannot wait to see the glories of Hebrews 5:1-10 with you today! Can I encourage you, if you have a moment, to spend a few moments reading through this passage and praying that God would make known to you the mysteries of his Word? 
 
As an additional reminder, we will be continuing with our 41 Days of Prayer today. If you have not joined our church in prayer this last week, can I ask you to join us in prayer this week? Handouts are in the bulletin, but we also have them on the homepage of our church's website @ 
 
Today we are coming together, asking that God would give us the peace that surpasses all understanding from Philippians 4:7. Would you ask God for that today? Dear Christians, 
 
Today we get to do one of my favorite things, baptizing our dear brother, Sam! It is a great honor and blessing for us as a church to help Sam take this important step of faith. It is an honor, because we have been entrusted with a spiritual responsibility of administering this sacred moment. It is a great blessing, because Sam's baptism reminds us of our own baptism. Today as we see Sam go into the water and come again, we are reminded of how we ourselves have been crucified with Christ and risen through his Spirit (cf. Rom 6:1-4). Therefore, as we come to church today, let us take hold of the promise we received in our baptism: we have a heavenly Father who will never leave us nor forsake us. Take hold of your baptism today dear Christians! 
 
Yet, we must also let our baptism take hold of us. We are no longer alive to sin, but dead to it. We are no longer dead to sin, but alive to God. We are crucified with Christ, drowned under the icy waters. Yet, we are also risen with him. Therefore, we must strive to make our lives align to his, to not drift in our faith, to hold fast to the end. 
 
And how good God has been to align this baptism with the text we are preaching on today, Hebrews 4:1-11. This passage gives us the promise of rest we have in Christ. Yet, it also commends us that we should strive to enter the rest in the future. Take hold of the rest of Christ, and let the rest of Christ take hold of you. Take hold of your baptism into Christ, and let your baptism into Christ take hold of you.
