Norm Seli

Rev. Norm Seli continues to read and wonder his way through Paul's first letter to the Church in Corinth.  Today, it's 2 Corinthians 1: 1-8.  Paul talks about his early success in sharing the Gospel/experience of Christ in Corinth and how it was clearly God that persuaded them and not his eloquent speech or wisdom - he does however acknowledge a place for wisdom, but God's wisdom rather than the wisdom of the world.  Norm wonders about the difference, how you know and if it really matters all that much.

Rev. Norm Seli continues to read and wonder his way through the Book of Exodus.  Today, it's Exodus 40: 16-33  The work of the Tabernacle is completed, God has given Moses clear instructions re: assembly, and now, Moses does as he's told.  Norm wonders at how Moses manages all of this.

The work of the Tabernacle is completed and Moses not only approves but blesses those who created this dwelling place for God among the people.  Norm wonders about the anonymity of the workers and artisans, the lack of wages paid... and the burden of moving this thing around!

The building of the Tabernacle has commenced and we start with the curtains that create a "tent".  Norm wonders about the Cherubim that are woven throughout the fabric of this tent and what it means, not just for Israelites, but for any of us to be together with God.

Rev. Norm Seli continues to read and wonder his way through the Book of Exodus.  Today, it's Exodus 36: 1-7.  It is time to get to work on the Tabernacle and everyone is involved.  Norm is somewhat surprised when Moses tells the people that they have enough to do the job and that they should stop donating to the Tabernacle. (Does he know nothing about investing?)

Rev. Norm Seli continues to read and wonder his way through the Book of Exodus.  Today, it's Exodus 34: 8-29-35  Returning from the Mountain and talking to God, Moses' faces glows. The glowing is such that Moses wears a veil so as not to frighten the people.  Norm wonders about how faith might change any of us and what our responsibility might be to those who are made uncomfortable by our faith.

Norm struggles with God's plan for the "Promised Land" and how Israel is to live in relation to the earlier inhabitants of the land.... Norm is also wondering what happened to the promised "autograph"?

Rev. Norm Seli continues to read and wonder his way through the Book of Exodus.  Today, it's Exodus 33: 1-6.  As the dust settles from the Golden Calf debacle,  Moses is instructed to lead the people to the land promised them by God.  God decides to keep a little distance from the people and have an Angel guide Moses instead.  Norm wonders a little bit about Moses, colonialism and why God needs distance.

God is angry at Israel and has decided to destroy them and start again; Moses convinces God to change God's mind.   Norm wonders what this story tell us about God and the implications for theology and living faithfully; Norm also wonders why we are being told this unsettling story.

Today, it's Exodus 28:15-30  and God is now involved in a holy "project runway" as we told how to make the Breastpiece of Judgement to go over the Ephod.  Norm wonders about all sorts of things, including having the names of Israel's children over the heart and what the Urim and Thummim might be and why they are so important.

God gives instructions on how to build the Tabernacle and Norm wonders about having a Most Holy place inside the Holy place and also about the essential elements of faith and how they might be represented symbolically in the midst of a whole bunch of construction detail.

God gives instructions on how to make the  outside of the Tabernacle and Norm wonders about the three layers; why the instructions are from the inside out, instead of the other way around - and he also wonder what it would have looked like inside the Tabernacle.

Today, it's Exodus 23: 10-13   God continues to instruct the Israelites (through Moses) about how they should observe not only a Sabbath Day, but a Sabbath Year as well.  Norm wonders what this might do for personal relationships and a community economy.

Rev. Norm Seli continues to read and wonder his way through the Book of Exodus.  Today, it's Exodus 19:15-25 The Israelites experience the presence of God, in a great cloud, thunder, lightning and a trumpet.  Norm wonders about the trumpet and also about God insisting that Moses remind the people to stay off the mountain.
