To be a believer in Christ is to be reborn and recreated by God. This miraculous rebirth not only saves our souls from sin, it also informs and influences our present and gives us a transcendent hope for an eternal future with God.

Created | 03 | Reborn | 1 Peter 1:3-9

As created beings, we are limited by this world and dependent on God in every way. Furthermore, we must understand our corrupt nature and position in a fallen world. While this may seem like a bleak outlook, embracing our brokenness paves the way for the hope of the gospel—for God in his great mercy made a way for us to be rescued and restored.

The core of our identity is that we are created by God, in his image, and for his glory. However, our sinful nature—reinforced by our culture—is to distance ourselves from God and create our own identity. This natural tendency towards independence and autonomy can be subtle, but we must grow in self awareness and discernment, intentionally placing ourselves under God’s authority.

As we consider the first Advent of Christ—the incarnation—we stand in awe of the powerful empathy of Jesus. The Son of God took on blood and flesh so that he could experience birth and death. In this way, he was not only able to redeem us, he also became our merciful and faithful High Priest before God—able to fully empathize with us and faithfully intercede for us.

2020 Topical Teaching | Like Me | Hebrews 2:14-18

Throughout this letter to the church at Corinth, Paul has exposed and corrected their sin. As he concludes, he exhorts the believers to be joyful, grow to maturity, encourage each other, and live in harmony and peace. As they align themselves with God’s purposes and come under his authority, he will bless them with grace, love, and the fellowship of the Spirit.

2 Corinthians | 18 | Joy, Maturity, and Peace | 2 Cor. 13:11-14

At this point in 2 Corinthians, Paul acknowledges a previous “severe” letter he sent the Corinthian church to correct some sinful patterns. Although this letter initially created tension, Paul rejoices in those who have repented. He goes on to explain the importance of godly sorrow that leads us to true confession and repentance.

What is our mission and why? Paul answers this important question by unpacking the gospel. As believers, we should be motivated by both the fear of God and the love of Christ. Only when we fully grasp these truths can we be effective ambassadors of Jesus, pointing others towards the gospel as the only path to reconciliation with God.

2 Corinthians | 07 | A Message of Reconciliation | 2 Corinthians 5:11-6:2

Believers in the church at Corinth are being swayed by the lure of human power and credibility. In response, Paul points them to the power of the New Covenant in Jesus Christ. It is only when we feel our lack and turn to Christ that we can be transformed by the Holy Spirit to reflect the glory of God.

2 Corinthians | 04 | A Glorious New Way | 2 Corinthians 3:7-18

As Paul continues the defense of his ministry to the church at Corinth, he explains what it means to be a minister of the New Covenant. In pouring out his life as a sacrifice for others, Paul is living out the gospel of Christ, and we see that real gospel ministry will result in life change.

2 Corinthians | 03 | Ministers of the New Covenant | 2 Corinthians 2:14-3:6

In this deeply personal passage, we see Paul defending himself to the Corinthian church. As many have turned aside to false teachers, Paul reminds them that he has chosen a clear and simple ministry so they can see God’s power through his weakness. He further encourages them to heed the Holy Spirit as affirmation of their position in Christ.
