A Kingdom Made Without Hands"Daniel 2:31-44 
As God’s prophet, Daniel told King Nebuchadnezzar about a gigantic “statue” which the 
king had seen in a dream. Its “brilliance” was 
“extraordinary,” and its “appearance was frightening” (Daniel 2:31; NRSV). The head of the 
statue was of “fine gold,” representing Nebuchadnezzar’s kingdom (Daniel 2:32, 38; NRSV). 
The “chest and arms” were “of silver,” pointing 
to “another kingdom” arising after Nebuchadnezzar’s (Daniel 2:32, 39; NRSV). The “middle 
and thighs” of the statue were “of bronze,” pointing to a third kingdom ruling “over the whole 
earth” (Daniel 2:32, 39; NRSV). The legs were “of 
iron mixed with clay,” pointing to a “fourth 
kingdom, strong as iron” (Daniel 2:33, 40, 43; 
NRSV)

The Day Of The Lord"Joel 3:11-17" 
The Book of Joel is small, but so is the atom bomb. 
It has a powerful message about the need for repentance. The theme of Joel is “The Day of the Lord” (Joel 
1:15; 2:1, 11, 31; 3:14). “The Day of the Lord” is a term 
used constantly in the Old Testament to refer to God 
coming in judgment on His people and/or on the nations round about. It is first mentioned by Amos. “The 
Day of the Lord” is invariably said to be a universeshaking event (note Joel 2:2a, 10, 30, 31; 3:15; see also 
Matthew 24:29; Revelation 6:12-14). In the New Testament the term is generally used to refer to the final day 
of Judgment (1 Corinthians 1:7, 8; 5:5; 2 Corinthians 
1:14; 2 Thessalonians 2:2; 2 Peter 3:10, 12).

The Day Of The Lord"Joel 3:11-17"

and chief executive officer all in one—a man of 
fabulous wealth and power. 
This is not to say that Solomon’s power and 
wealth were automatic. The Old Testament shows 
that he had to fight off numerous rivals in order 
to get and hold onto his power. In other words, 
he knew what the “rat race” is all about.

two ways. We may state a falsehood, 
or we may apply a truth improperly. Bildad’s 
statement in 8:11–13 is true. His assumption 
that this truth explains Job’s sufferings is false. 
We may learn important lessons by studying

by observing his error of application.

With friends like these who needs 
enemies?” This wry expression is nowhere more appropriate than in reflecting upon 
the so-called “comfort” offered by Job’s friends. 
In the midst of his suffering he was joined by 
Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar, who come to 
console him in his grief. After watching him in 
silence for a whole week, then listening to his 
anguished complaint against God, they began 
to speak. Though they meant to help and their 
efforts were no doubt sincere, they failed totally. 
The reason for their failure was simple—they 
began with the wrong assumptions. Even worse, 
they refused to let evidence affect their thinking 
or cause them to reconsider their beliefs.

Peter loved Jesus.î Maybe, maybe not! But 
no one knew Jesus better than Peter. He involved 
himself with Jesus. We need to study and preach 
the gospel sermons recorded in Acts. We, possibly, only study Acts 2. The sermons in Acts had 
the same focusóJesus. The sermons in Acts outlined the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. 
Preach Christ and you get the church. You do not 
preach the church to get Christ. Plant MMLJ to 
get Acts. You do not plant Acts to get Acts. What 
does Peter say about Jesus?
