It's Advent Season!  That means a new church year.  The four Sundays in Advent are more than just the time before Christmas.  The season is one of preparation.  Just as you prepare your house with a tree and lights so also prepare you hearts.  The world had 80 years to prepare before God sent the flood.  For 80 years they must have wondered what Noah was thinking.  Before we condemn the world at Noah's time, ask, "How different is our world today?"  "Can things really get much worse?"  Even if it is easy to point at the evils of the world, that doesn't excuse the evils in our hearts.  Advent means coming.  Our God is surely coming in judgement.  That is why we so desperately needed his coming at Christmas.  That is also why we need him to come to us through his Word.  Watch be washed clean.

Jesus is the King of the Universe!  Yet there are many who question areas of his reign.  Did he forget a few things?  What about a kingdom? Christianity - the church - seems so fractured.  It's anything but a united kingdom.  Some even question his physical resurrection.  They say, "He's with us in spirit."  There is one thing that Jesus has yet to do. Paul reminds the Gentiles that even though the Jews have rejected the gospel, that doesn't mean God doesn't want them in his kingdom.  All of us have been grafted into God's family - like a branch into a tree.  We depend on God's mercy completely.

What does it feel like to be on the outside looking in?  A Christian has know idea because not only has God made you, Christian, his child, he also guarantees that you will be with him until you see him face to face in heaven.  Would God go to all the trouble to send Jesus, for him to live a perfect life, and die an innocent death in our place - only to forget about us when we're having a bad day?!  Don't believe Satan's lie!  The truth is that in Jesus you are a child of God.
