“You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil. For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire.”

REVIEW: 
- Isa 8; The portrayal of hopeless and helpless situation of Israel because of their disobedience. It did not end there. There was a coming hope for God's people. 
- What kind of hope does the Messiah bring? 
- a. It is a hope in the midst of darkness 
- b. a hope revealed thru the light 
- c. a hope filled with joy.

WHAT KIND OF JOY DOES THE PEOPLE OF GOD HAS FROM THE MESSIAH? 
 
1. AN OVERFLOWING JOY 
 
- 1a. It is a joy that comes from God 
- The author wrote that God multiplied the nation and multiplied their joy. 
- The Lord made their joy so great and the source is God alone. 
 
- 1b. It is a joy before God's presence 
- The ultimate joy of God's people takes place in the presence of God. 
- v3. It shows the marvelous and abundant joy as compared to their joy when they are harvesting 
- ref. Deu 12.7 
- It is a joy that is overflowing. The unspeakable true joy of God's people is found in Him alone and can be experienced in His presence. 
- Let's not entrust our joy in temporal things but entrust our joy from God who is eternal. 
- What is the source of your true joy? 
- To rejoice in the Lord is the highest form of joy. 
 
2. A TRIUMPHANT JOY 
- Isa 9 v 4-5; 
- ref. Judges 6.16; their triumph is not because of their strength but because God is with them. 
- The great joy is triumphant and worthy of exhilarating joy because it is won by the power of God alone. 
- Their victory is not their accomplishments but is of God 
- Their victory is a complete victory over the enemies. 
- "we step into the battlefield after the battle is won and all we do is celebrate" 
- The joy that the Savior brought is something that the world cannot give. 
- Heb 2.14-15; 
- There is no true joy if you don't know that you were freed from the slavery of sin. 
- Our joy is a triumphant joy because our Savior triumphed over our greatest enemy. 
 
- [ ] APPLICATION 
1. We need to keep rejoicing even when it seems there is no reason found around us. (because the source of our joy is found only in the Lord) 
- 2 Cor 6.10 ("sorrowful yet always rejoicing") 
- Our joy is not dependent on our present circumstances but in our future state. 
- ref. Phi 4.4 
- We are commanded to rejoice in the Lord always. 
2. Let us draw daily grace from God's Word as our source of joy 
- God's word to Isaiah gave joy to God's people even though it hasn't happened yet 
3. Let us show the world the joy that we have in Christ. 
- what the world needs from us [Christians] is our unshakeable joy in Jesus in the midst of suffering and sorrow. - John Piper

“When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples across the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, which he and his disciples entered. Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples. So Judas, having procured a band of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, went there with lanterns and torches and weapons. Then Jesus, knowing all that would happen to him, came forward and said to them, “Whom do you seek?” They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them. When Jesus said to them, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground. So he asked them again, “Whom do you seek?” And they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. So, if you seek me, let these men go.” This was to fulfill the word that he had spoken: “Of those whom you gave me I have lost not one.” Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his right ear. - No man could take the life of Christ unless He voluntarily surrenders it. 
- Christ knows that He will die on the cross 
 
FIVE (5) OBSERVATIONS ON THE ARREST OF JESUS CHRIST 
 
1. Christ gave himself to be arrested despite of him being all-knowing 
- Christ is Omniscient 
- John 1.48; John13.11 
- From the beginning of time Christ knows everything. 
- Christ already knew at that moment, that Satan has taken over Judas (Jn.18) 
- Matt 22.18 (Christ's omniscience on the scribes and Pharisees' hearts) 
- Christ never commit mistakes. 
- ref. Matt 12.25; Luke 6.8 
- The omniscience of Christ is a solid proof of His divinity 
- ref. Rev 2.23; 
 
2. Christ gave himself to be arrested even though He is the great I AM 
- John 18:5-6 ; Christ claimed that He is the great "I AM" 
- I AM being a personal name of Jehovah (ref. Exodus 13.14) 
- Jesus is Lord and the great I AM (Act 4.12; John 8.24; John 8.58) 
- Christ reiterated His deity. 
- Christ is the Holy One 
- I AM the bread of life 
- I AM the way the truth and the life 
- I AM the light of the world 
- I AM the door (John 10) 
- I AM the good shepherd; 
- I AM the resurrection and the life) 
- I AM the vine and you are the branches. God sustained (John 15) 
- What is our response to this great I AM? We ought to serve Him 
 
3. Christ gave himself to be arrested yet still protected His disciples 
- John 18:7-9; Matthew 12.20 
- The disciples faith were weak but Christ did not cast them away 
- ref. John 17.12 
- Christ showed selflessness even in the last moment of His life. 
- Christ has the same compassion towards us despite of our weakness 
 
4. Christ gave himself to be arrested and He didn't need anyone to defend Him 
- Christ did not need anyone to defend Him 
- Christ has authority (verse 6). 
- Christ gave the soldiers an opportunity to repent. 
- Multitudes of people has received God's goodness yet their hearts were not changed. (just like the soldiers) 
 
5. Christ gave himself to be arrested because He was about to drink the bitter cup of suffering in order to fulfill the Father's will 
- We must not forget about the humanity of Christ 
- We cannot dismiss that He experienced physical suffering. Christ agonized and experienced physical and inner torments. 
- He was about to suffer an indescribable death. 
- He was about to drink the full cup of God's wrath because of our sin 
- 2 Cor 5.21; He was about to be alienated from the Father and be made sin for us. 
- Christ still called 'Abba Father' 
- Mark 14; Matt 8.19-22 
- We must never forget the demand of discipleship; It is not just on good times but at all times. 
- There is a demand. We must take up our cross and follow Him 
- True Christianity demands courage and steadfastness. Doing the work of Christ demands putting aside our comfort.

1. You can't counsel God v. 34 
- Contrast: Our finite knowledge and God's infinite wisdom 
- We can never know the mind of the LORD unless He graciously reveals it to us. 
- As our God is infinite so are His ways and judgments. 
- God does not need our counsel. But how many times did we try to counsel our God? 
- Jer 23:8, Isa 40:13-14 
- God's wisdom does not need our approval. God's counsels are determined apart from man's approval. 
- Dan 4:35 - None can question God's wisdom and exercise of His sovereignty. 
- God can never be caught or taken by surprise. 
- Isaiah 9:6 - God is our great counsellor. Have you sought His counsel before making significant life decision. 
- LORD (Gk: Kurios) = absolute authority and rule. 
 
2. You can't obligate God v. 35 
- 1 Cor 4:7 - We cannot give anything to God that He has not. 
- You cannot outgive God. 
- Job 41:11 - We cannot meet God's need that He cannot fulfill. 
- Psalm 50:12ff - God is complete and totally sufficient on His own. God is the supreme treasure of the universe. 
- We cannot pile up our good works. 
- God will not hear our prayers when we approach Him in our name. 
- Luke 1:53 - God satisfies the hungry ones and sends away the rich empty. 
 
Application: 
- Weighty truth: God does not need you. God does not need us. God needs nothing from us. God does not require our existence for His survival. 
- Unbelievers: You cannot merit our salvation. Trust in Christ alone. 
- Believers: This is reassuring. James 1:17. God has given us everything in Christ. 
- Mercy: We did not receive what we deserve. 
- Grace: We received what we do not deserve. 
- Boasting excluded, pride I abased. We are only sinners saved by Grace.

Paul's doxology emphasizes that God's ways are unfathomable. 
 
Doxology is the highest praise for the LORD. 
 
I. The Unsearchableness of God's Judgment 
- We search in order to explore. 
- Job 26:14, - God's judgment cannot be investigated. 
- Job 37:23 - We cannot search God. 
- If your god can be contained in your mind, that is not the God of the Bible. 
a. The Creation of the Universe 
- God created everything out of nothing in six days. Heb 11:3 
- God has purpose for His creation, we are mere creatures. 
b. The Mystery of Sin - 
- Sin is created by God's creation. God did not create it. Sin came from heaven - Satan. 
- Sin did not appear in the world apart from God's decree and sovereign permission. 
- God is not the author of sin. God permitted the creature to commit sin for His holy, good, and wise reasons. 
- Through the instrumentality of sin, God made Himself known. 
- If you understand the greatness of God, you will put your hand on your mouth. 
- God's judgments are unsearchable because God Himself is unsearchable. 
- We can reason with God to know His will, and not to arrogantly question His ways. Isaiah 1:18 
- Even though how great our sins is, there is forgiveness because Christ already paid for it. 
- Do not ask, "why do bad things happen to good people?", rather ask, "why do good things happen to bad people like us?" 
 
II. The Inscrutability of God's Ways 
- God's ways are impossible to be search 
- God's ways are untraceable. 
- Man can never understand the doctrine of God's saving grace. This proves the inscrutability of God's ways. 
a. The Incarnation: How can God became a man without ceasing to be God? Phil 2:5ff 
b. The death of the Son: this is foolishness to the Jews. The wisdom of God is greater than our wisdom. 
c. The Resurrection of Christ: Even the disciples failed to understand this - John 20:9 
- The natural man cannot understand God's purpose. 
- 1 Cor 2:14 - The natural man does not only fail to understand God's ways, he also hates it. 
- God is inscrutable because of His holy, perfect, infinite, and eternal character. 
- Men are finite: Even at our best, we are small. The more we know so many things, the more we discover that we do not know so many things. 
- Men are pervert: Psalm 14:1 - Atheists are fools. 
- Men are blinded: 2 Cor 4:4 
 
- God revealed Himself in His Word, but to understand it man must be born again through the supernatural work of the Spirit. 
 
Application: 
- God is too wise to be mistaken 
God is too good to be unkind 
So when you don't understand 
When don't see His plan 
When you can't trace His hand

- Let us shun our foolish reasoning. 
- God sent His Son as a poor baby. 
- God saves sinners through the preaching of the gospel which is foolishness to the world. 
- A true church endeavors to proclaim the pure gospel to people. We glory in the gospel! 
- God's ways is to save people by faith in the righteousness and blood of Jesus Christ.

GALATIANS 4:4-5 
 
INTRODUCTION 
- [ ] No matter how dismissive people may be on the Genesis creation, they cannot refute the truth 
- [ ] The only reason why man is what he is right now is because of what took place in the book of Genesis 
- [ ] When man was created, man is capable to serve God and enjoy God 
- [ ] Obedience prior to the fall is always pleasant. Adam reflected the wisdom of God, His holiness and His goodness. 
 
- [ ] But Adam became a rebel, his heart was turned against God. 
- [ ] Justice of God became Adam's enemy. From that point onwards Adam was confronted with 2 realities; The penalty was given to Adam and his seed;Man is desperate and hopeless 
- [ ] God convicted Adam, and God laid down the foundation of hope in Gen 3:15 "The seed of the woman shall bruise the serpent's head" 
- [ ] God designed the provision for salivation 
 
1. VARIOUS TYPES AND SHADOWS OF THE ATONEMENT 
- The way for atonement was declared in Gen 3:15 
- The death and sacrifice of an Innocent victim. Sacrifice of Beasts as the substitute for sin- God declared that He will provide a Lamb as a substitute to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself, ref. Heb 9:26 
- Salvation was proclaimed in the old testament 
- Moses was commanded to sacrifice lambs, sprinkle the blood at the door to get saved from the angel of death. No Israelite was harmed because of the blood. God accepted the blood as passover to preach deliverance by the death of a substitute ref. 1 Co 5:7-8 
- When we commemorate the Lord's supper, it is a progressive revelation for the passover that is to come. 
- The Great day of Atonement- 2 goats were presented in behalf of the people of Israel. After they casted lots, One goat will be sacrificed (as a substitute for the people) and the other will be the scapegoat. It depicts the removal of sin from the congregation. The substitution and perfect sacrifice of Christ. 
 
2. THE ACTUAL ATONEMENT IN THE PERSON AND WORK OF JESUS CHRIST 
 
*Christ rendered perfect obedience. 
*Christ's sacrifice is superior because it was offered once and for all. 
*Jesus Christ represented His people when he suffered - 1 Cor 15:47 
 
- The Actual Atonement - Rom 9:19 
- The Prince of Peace 
- The Word -John 1:14 - Word was made flesh 
- The Righteousness - Jesus Christ obtained righteousness for His seed - Rom 5:12-19 
- The Shepherd of the Sheep - the shepherd became liable for the sheep - John 10:11, 1 Pe 1:18-21 
- The Ransom for many - Matt 20:28 , the people of Christ are God's workmanship 
- The Substitute for Sin: Christ as substitute for sin: ref. 2 Cor 5:14-15, Isa 53:6-8 
- The Great High Priest and Advocate

1. The Nature of Judicial blindness 
A. It is all-inclusive 
- The whole world is shut in disobedience - Rom 3:9, 19, 22-24 
- Disobedience is Jews and Gentiles characters. 
- Their blindness is the result of God's action. 
- Rom 11:7-11, Rom 9:13, 18 - is God then the author of sin, unbelief, and disobedience? 
- God is all wise, powerful, and holy. 
- God is the opposite of evil. He did not create evil. 
- Sin is rebellion and disobedience to God. Why would God create such a thing? 
B. It is under God's sovereignty 
- Even though God is not the author (objectionable) of sin, sin is not outside God's control. 
- God can use sin (sovereign) in order to serve/accomplish His purpose (Gen 50:20). 
- God aggravates the ugliness of sin to let the opposite of sin shine: grace and mercy of God. 
- Isaiah 45:7 - God creates the evil consequences of sin. He is involved in the consequences of evil. All things including the devil is under God's control. 
- Rom 9:17 - God hardened Pharaoh's heart. 
- This is a staggering doctrine. God made us understand His mystery. 
C. It is according to God's purpose 
- Divine purpose pervades and controls all the freedoms of men, it is a divine purpose mustering all the activities and random acts of the human will. 
- God is over it all. 
- God subordinates sin to His purpose, but sin is not a subordinate element in His purpose. 
- God knows the end from the beginning. God decreed all things. God is not surprised. 
- God uses evil instruments which cannot escape the impulse and movements of God's power. 
 
- Even the hardest things that we need to endure are not meant to break us but to produce something good in us. Don't look at the wrong side of providence. Focus on the good side of providence. 
- Evil and suffering are not ultimate. God is. Satan is not sovereign. God is. Dan 4:35, Isa 46:10, Lam 3:20, Amos 3:6, Pr 19:21, 16:9 
 
2. The Result of Judicial blindness 
- It leads to God's mercy 
- God presses men's sin and disobedience that it may be clear that nothing but God's own mercy can ever give us salvation. 
- If they are saved, they are only saved by God's grace. 
- It is to show that we are entirely what we are as Christians because of the mercy of God alone. Titus 3:5 
- Salvation is based solely and exclusively on God's mercy. 
- Mercy - not receiving what we deserved 
- Grace - receiving what we do not deserved. 
 
Application: 
- God does not have mercy. God Himself is mercy. Even the greatest sinner can be forgiven. 
- What kind of mercy did we receive? It is unfailing. 
- Psalm 89:1 - Sing of the LORD's mercy forever! 
- Unbelievers - there is an accountability for conscious rejection of God's mercy - Heb 2:2-3 
- Proverbs 29:1 - There is a danger in resisting God's mercy. Judgment is sure, sudden, and final.

2. Ang Katangian ng Hiwagang ito 
 
Pagkabulag ng Bansang Israel hanggang makumpleto ang bilang ng mga Hentil. 
 
Sa pagdating ng Banal na Espiritu ay bubuksan Niya ang mga mata ng bansang Israel. 
 
3 yugto ng pagliligtas ng Panginoon: 
a. Sa LT iniligtas ang mga Israelita (mula sa Ehipto) 
b. Sa Pentecostes iniligtas ang mga Hentil 
c. Sa Araw na ililigtas ng Diyos kapwa Hudyo at Hentil. - ito ay sa pamamagitan lamang ng biyaya, ng muling kapanganakan, sa dugo ni Hesu-Kristo. Makikita nila na si Hesu-Kristo ang totoong Mesias. Ito rin ang katotohanan sa bawat isang binuksan ng Diyos ang kanilang mata na dating nagtitiwala sa sarili nilang kabaitan at katuwiran. 
 
 
3. Ang Panahon ng katuparan ng hiwagang ito 
 
Bago ang pagparitong muli ng Panginoon sa malapit na hinaharap. 
 
Kung paanong idinalangin ni Daniel ang kaganapan ng katuparan ng ipinangakong pagbabalik ng Israel mula sa pagkakapatapon, tayo rin ay dapat manalangin upang ibalik nawa sila ng Diyos sa Kanya! 
 
Ang propesiya sa Israel ay di pa natutupad ngunit sa bawat isa sa atin ay dumarating (Hebreo 9:27) 
 
Handa ka na ba sa pagharap sa paghatol ng Diyos sa oras ng iyong pagpanaw?

- He is no longer arguing here. Now, through prophetic utterance, declare the truth about Ethnic Israel. 
- Not all need plain proclamation of the Word of God, some people needs reasoning through polemics and apologetics. 
- Paul is teaching that what was happening then is not inconsistent with the OT. 
- We do not tickle the audience's ears but we expose men through the faithful preaching of the gospel. 
 
Threefold Reason for Paul's Prophetic Utterance for the full restoration 
1. To Combat Ignorance v. 25 
- Truth expressed negatively (Litotes - Rom 1:16) - negative expression of very strong assertion. 
- We need theology - 5 kinds of False Jesus 
a. Jesus who remains a child (Sto. Nino). But the True Jesus has already grown up when He was on earth as a man. He is our Master. 
b. Jesus who is still hanging on the cross. But the True Jesus is alive and reigning now. His work on the cross has been completed. 
c. Jesus who is always angry and must be tamed by his mother, Mary. She pleads the Son the men may be forgiven. But the True Jesus' invitation is direct. 
d. Jesus in the coffin, whose feet is kissed by the devotee. But the True Jesus has risen from the dead. 
e. Jesus who is like Santa or god-father, super ninlng. People come to him only when necesssary. But the True Jesus is King and you must submit to Him. 
- Like Paul, pastors should preach the gospel boldly to combat ignorance. 
 
2. To Combat False Wisdom v. 25 
- That they may be not wise in their own eyes/estimation (18-21). False wisdom accompanied with pride. 
- They thought they had superior understanding. 
- You are not a Christian because of your wisdom, but by the grace of God. Eph 2:8-9, Isa 64:6 
 
3. To Reveal A Mystery 
- Mystery - different from false teaching that only a specific group leader had the secret (mystery religions). 
- Mystery for Paul - it is the truth that natural minds cannot understand, but God gracious revealed to us (The Trinity, predestination, Jesus the God-man) 
- We need the gracious operation of the Spirit to apprehend this truth. 
- But this revealed to the humble - Mt 11:25-26, Rom 16:25-26, 1 Cor 2:6-8 
- People always pride themselves with understanding but that's not with Christianity. 
- The truth is revealed. If you do not know the truth, it's nobody's fault but yours. 
- 1 Cor 15:51 - the mystery of Christ's return. 
- Christianity is mystery revealed not truth concealed. 
- Hymn #256: Break thou the bread of life - changed from "show us the truth concealed" to "show us the truth contained within your word." 
- Paul as an apostle received direct revelation from God, appointed by Christ and seen the Risen Christ. 
- We do not have apostolic succession but apostolic writings. 
- 2 Tim 3:15-17 - The Word of God is able to make us wise unto salvation. All we need for salvation is in the Bible (John 20:30-31). Don't look for what is not written (De 29:29). Things are written that we may believe the Son of God and have eternal life. 
- You want salvation? Stick to what is written. Do not go beyond.

1. An Appeal to God's Power v. 23 
- Salvation is neither an issue of nationality nor good works but faith in Christ. It is a matter of belief. 
- The only hindrance to ones entry to the Kingdom is unbelief. 
- They have to continue in the way of faith. 
- No true believer will fall away totally from Christ. 
- It is only a question of faith in the LORD Jesus Christ. Salvation is by faith and by faith alone. 
- Negative expression - he asserts man's responsibility and man's natural unbelief. 
- Antinomy: Man's responsibility and God's sovereignty 
- Christ is the Only Savior. He is the Object of our faith. Faith does not save; it points to the One that saves. We are only beggars who call upon the LORD. The One to whom we call is the Savior. 
- The lost is responsible for their lost condition. 
- They cannot graft themselves in. 
- God is able - there is a difficulty in grafting them in again. But God can do it. 
Illustration: Mark 10:17-27 - With man it is impossible but not with God. For all things are possible with God. 
- Nothing less than the power of God can restore the Jewish people back to the Olive tree. In the same way, nothing less than the power of God can save a rebel, hostile, and depraved sinner. 
- When God does something, He is not a failure (John 10:28). 
- Salvation in Christ is certain and sure. It cannot fail (Phil 1:6). 
 
2. A Further Appeal to God's Power v. 24 
Argument from the greater to the lesser 
- God does what is contrary to nature - the grafting in of Gentiles. 
- Rom 9:4-5 - the Gentiles are not included (Eph 2:11-13) 
- If God is able to graft in the Gentiles who are by nature not His people, how much more the nation of Israel, who are by nature His people? 
 
Application: 
- Unbelief is a big deal. God has given a superabundant revelation in His Word. 
- Unbelief is rebellion and defiance. Unless you repent of your unbelief, you will perish. 
- Unbelief is not a small matter in the sight of God. 
- How can you escape if you neglect so great a salvation? Do not linger in your unbelief! (Heb 2:3)

1. Kasinungalingan ng Diyablo 
Sa Gen.3 ay mapapansin na ginamit ng Diyablo ang ahas upang tuksuhin si Eva. Ngunit gjnamit naman ng Diyablo si Eva upang mahulog si Adan sa kasalanan. Ganito ka-wise ang tactic ni Satanas. 
Ginagawa ni Satanas na mukhang magaan at maginhawa ang kasalanan. 
Ngunit hindi tayo ignorante sa Kanyang mga gawain. (2 Cor. 2:11) 
Ginagawang biro ang usapin ng kamatayan. Ginagawang abala ang mga tao sa ibat-ibang bagay at maubos ang kanilang oras. 
 
Ngunit ang lahat ng kasinungalingan ay inilalantad ng katotohanan. 
 
2 Si Kristo ang Katotohanan 
Dahil si Kristo ang katotohanan, ay sinasalungat siya ng mga Pariseo. 
Hal. Sa tagpo ng isang babaeng nahuli sa pangangalunya na iniharap nila kay Hesus. 
Sa Isang tanong lamang ay isa isa silang nag-alisan. 
Inilalantad ng Salita ni Hesus ang tunay na kalagayan, kasalanan sa puso ng tao. 
Kahit sa gitna ng pagdurusa ng tao ay naroroon pa rin ang kasalanan. 
Maaaring mawala ang Covid19, ngunit walang makapapawi sa kasalanan ng tao. 
Si Kristo lamang ang makapapawi ng kasalanan. 
 
Paano mo malalaman ang katotohanan? 
Ito ang pagkakilala at lumalagong pagkakilala kay Kristo. 
“Sapagkat sa inyo ipinagkaloob na malaman ang mga hiwaga ng kaharian ng langit, ngunit hindi ipinagkaloob sa kanila." (Mateo 13:11) 
 
Ang katotohanan ay hindi sa kalooban ng tao makukuha. Ito ay tanging sa biyaya lamang ng Diyos. 
Maaaring binabasa ng isang tao ang Biblia ngunit hindi nauunawaan ang katotohanan.

- Jesus is the passover lamb, so it took place during the passover celebration. 
 
1. The Actual News of the Crucifixion 
- Golgotha is the place of capital punishment. Jesus appeared to them as the ordinary Jewish man. 
- No complain came out of Jesus' mouth but a prayer that they may be forgiven (Isaiah 53:12, Lu 23:34) 
- Mt 27:44 - Both criminals mocked Jeus. But the other one was granted repentance unto life (Acts 11:18) 
- The other criminal was saved at the 11th when He called on the LORD (Lu 23:42) 
- Don't wait for the 11th hour! Come to Christ now. 
- Even the sun didn't look at the death of the Son to display the epitome of men's wickedness. 
- On the death of Jesus, the curtain was torn in two, the earth quaked. 
- Mt 27:54 - Some soldiers were saved, filled with awe confessed, "Truly this was the Son of God". 
 
2. The Subsequent Editorial of the News of the Crucifixion 
A. The cross reveals men's hatred to God and depravity of their heart (Rom 8:7, Jer 17:9) 
- The crucifixion of the Son of God is the complete unveiling of man's depravity. 
- John 15:25 - Men hated God without a cause. 
- Multitudes mocked Him on Calvary 
B. The cross unveils the ugliness of sin. Sin is not a joke. It is never a light matter in the sight of God. 
- Hab 1:13, John 15:22 
- Men don't thank God in exposing their sins, but they slew the LORD of Glory. 
 
C. The Cross displays the Character of God 
- Jesus as the sin-bearer received the punishment of our sins. He was forsaken because of the holy character of God 
- Jesus fulfilled the demands of God's justice. 
- Jesus died for the sinners to display God's abundant grace (Rom 5:8) 
- Jesus' death displayed God's wisdom - How can God's forgiving love and justice meet? The puzzle is solved. God forgives without being injustice because of the cross. 
 
- Gaze at the cross of calvary and see that you deserve that horrendous death. But your death won't be enough. 
- Before Jesus died, He exclaimed "It is finished" (John 19:30) 
- What do you see on the cross? Jesus died a substitute's death. He did not die a hero's death. 
- If you trust in Him, His death is enough to cover your sins. 
- One of these days, the Substitute will come again to judge you if you remain unrepentant. 
- Jesus is not only your Savior, He is also your Judge. Come to Him!

- This happened during the passover (feast commemorating the deliverance of Israel from the Angel of death) celebration
- Many people testified to the crucifixion of Jesus. It was done publicly.
- Jesus is the passover lamb, so it took place during the passover celebration.

1. The Actual News of the Crucifixion
- Golgotha is the place of capital punishment. Jesus appeared to them as the ordinary Jewish man. 
- No complain came out of Jesus' mouth but a prayer that they may be forgiven (Isaiah 53:12, Lu 23:34)
- Mt 27:44 - Both criminals mocked Jeus. But the other one was granted repentance unto life (Acts 11:18)

A. KABAITAN NG DIYOS 
Ano ang sukdulan ng pagpapakita ng kabaitan ng Diyos? Sa Ebanghelyo! 
Remember, Christ came to save sinners. 
 
Sa tal.22 Inuutusan tayong tingnan ang kabaitan at kabagsikan ng Diyos. 
 
Tiyakin natjn ang pananampalataya ay na kay Kristo lamang at wala sa anumang ating nagawa. 
 
Ang pagtingin natin sa biyaya ng Diyos ang sjyang papatay sa ating kayabangan. 
 
Muli, maging ang pananampalataya ay kaloob din ng Diyos. (Efeso 2:8) 
 
Roma 4:4-5 - pananampalataya (sa umaaring-ganap) ay itinuturing na katuwiran 
1 Cor.1:30-31 - ipagmalaki ang Panginoon 
1 Cor.4:7 - ano ang nasa atin na hindi natin tinanggap 
Roma 12:3 - huwag mag-isip nang higit sa nararapat isipin sa sarili 
Paglalarawan: Kung tunay kang nakatanggap ng tulong ng 10 Milyon mula sa isang tao para mabayaran ang utang mo, ay di mo maaring hindi ipagmalaki ang tayong yaon. 
 
Lahat ng ating espirituwal na karamdaman ay nagmumula sa pagtigil sa pagtingin sa mabuting Balita ni Hesu-Kristo. (Tingnan Galacia 6:14) 
 
 
B. KABAGSIKAN NG DIYOS 
Handa rin ba tayong tingnan ang kabagsikan ng Diyos?

Inaalis ng ilan ngayon ang konsepto ng pagkatakot sa Panginoon sa pagsasabing nasa Lumang Tipan (LT) lamang ito. 
 
Dahil ang ating pag-ibig, pagkat ang ating pagsunod ay di pa ganap, tayo ay marapat na matakot. (Ting. Santiago 4:6) 
 
Ang pinaka trap ng 'spiritual pride' ay ang ipagmalaki na tayo ay 'doctrinally correct'. 
(tingnan 1 Cor.8:1 - ang kaalaman ay nagpapalaki ng ulo) 
 
"Pride is the enemy of every Christian."

- pride in our background (Hal. Proud to be a Filipino, etc.) 
- pride in our own inherent worth (either manifested positively or negatively) 
- pride in natural gifts 
 
There is only one direction when it comes to pride - me! 
John Baptist: "He must increase, i must decrease" 
 
Kung ihahambing natin ang ating sarili sa Diyos ay wala tayong dahilan para magyabang. Huwag nating ihambing ang ating sarili sa kapwa.
