HOW CAN YOU KNOW GOD IS REAL 
 
Although the prophets of Baal "raved all afternoon" no one answered them. Their god was silent because it was not real. The gods we may be tempted to follow are not idols of wood or stone, but they are just as false and Dangerous, because they cause us to depend on something other than God. Power, status, appearance or material possessions can become our gods if we devote our lives to them. But when we reach times of crisis and desperately call out these gods, there will only be silence. They can offer no true answers,, no guidance, and no wisdom. The one true God on the other hand, always hears and promises to answer.

WHO ARE THE PEOPLE YOU KNOW WILL GIVE YOU GOOD ADVICE? 
 
Rehoboam asked for advice, but he didn't carefully evaluate that advice. if he had he would have realized that the advice offered by the older men was wiser than that of his peers. To evaluate advice, ask yourself if it is realistic, 
workable and consistent with the bible. Determine whether following the advice will be fair, make improvements, and result in a wise solution. Seek counsel from those more experienced and wise. Advice is helpful only if we evaluate it with God's standards in mind.

Because of Solomon's wisdom, the people were happy and the palace servants content. Wisdom's quality is shown by how well it works. In James 3:17 we learn that wisdom is peace loving. Are you seeking the kind of wisdom that establishes peace in your relationships?

WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM SOLOMON ABOUT MAKING AND CARRYING OUT PLANS? 
 
 
Verse 13 summarizes the Temple's main purpose. God promised that his eternal presence would never leave the Temple as long as one condition was met-the Israelites had to obey God's law. Knowing how many laws they had to follow, we may think this condition was difficult. But the Israelite's situation was much like ours today: they were not cut off from God for failing 
to keep some small subpoint of a law. Forgiveness was amply provided for all their sins, no matter how large or small. As you read the history of the kings, you will see that the lawbreaking was the result, not the cause, 
of estrangement from God. The kings abandoned God in their hearts first and then failed to keep his laws. When we close our hearts to God his power and presence soon leave us.

Solomon's settlement of this dispute was a classic example of his wisdom. This wise ruling was verification that God had answered Solomon's prayer and given him an understanding heart. We have God's wisdom available to us as we pray and request it. But, like Solomon, we must put it into action. Applying wisdom to life, demonstrates our understanding.

SOLOMON SOLVES A PROBLEM | 1 KINGS 3:16-28

WHICH OF SOLOMON'S CHOICES WOULD YOU HAVE MADE? 
 
When given a chance to have anything in the world Solomon asked for wisdom in order to lead well and make right decisions. We can ask God for this same wisdom (James 1:15). Notice that Solomon asked for wisdom to carry out his job. He did not ask God to do the job for him. We should not ask God to do for us what he wants to do through us. Instead, we should ask God to give us the wisdom to know what to do and the courage to follow 
through on it.

He knew that if the king found out that his son had been killed, Joab would have turned on him instead of giving him a reward. Joab could not answer but only dismissed him. Those who do evil often do not take the time to consider what they are about to do. They don't care whether or not it is right or lawful. Don't rush into action without thinking. Consider whether what you are about to do is right or wrong.

David repented of his sin, but God’s judgement was that his child would die. The consequences of David’s sin were irreversible. Sometimes an apology isn’t enough. When God forgives us and restores our relationship to him, he doesn’t eliminate all the consequences of our wrongdoings. We may be tempted to say. “If this is wrong, I can say always apologize to God,” but we must remember that we may set into motion events with consequences that cannot be reversed.
