Song # 2319.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in 1 Kings chapter 15 that Abijah became king of Judah and he reigned for three years in Jerusalem. 
Abijah became king of Judah (1 Kings 15:1), and he reigned in Jerusalem for three years. His mother’s name was Maacah daughter of Abishalom (1 Kings 15:2). He committed all the sins his father Rehoboam had done before him; his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his forefather had been (1 Kings 15:3). Nevertheless, for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising a son to succeed him and by making Israel strong (1 Kings 15:4). For David had done what was right in the eyes of the Lord and had not failed to keep any of the Lord’s commands all the days of his life - except in the case of Uriah the Hittite (1 Kings 15:5). There was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam throughout Abijah’s lifetime (1 Kings 15:6), and there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam (1 Kings 15:7). Abijah rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And Asa his son succeeded him as king (1 Kings 15:8). 
Thought for today: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands. 
Thought for the future: eyes of faith see God’s work. Where will you spend your eternity?

Song # 2350 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in Genesis chapter 28 that Isaac, Jacob’s father, sent him to find a wife from one of Laban’s daughters in Paddan Aram. Laban was Rebekah’s brother. 
Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him and commanded him “Do not marry a Canaanite woman” (Genesis 28:1). “Go at once to Paddan Aram, to the house of your mother’s father Bethuel. Take a wife for yourself there, from among the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother” (Genesis 28:2). “May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples” (Genesis 28:3). “May God give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land where you now live as an alien, the land God gave to Abraham” (Genesis 28:4). Then Isaac sent Jacob on his way, and Jacob went to Paddan Aram, to Laban the son of Bethual and brother of Rebekah who was the mother of Jacob and Esau (Genesis 28:5). Now Esau learned that Isaac had blessed Jacob and had sent him to Paddan Aram to take a wife from there, and that when Isaac blessed Jacob he commanded him “Do not marry a Canaanite woman” (Genesis 28:6), and that Jacob had obeyed his father and mother and had gone to Paddan Aram (Genesis 28:7). Esau then realised how displeasing the Canaanite women were to his father Isaac (Genesis 28:8), so he went to Ishmael and married Mahalath his daughter, in addition to the wives he already had (Genesis 28:9). 
Thought for today: set your heart on heavenly things above, and not on earthly things. 
Thought for the future: there’s only one way to heaven, but that’s all we need. Where will you spend your eternity?

Isaac said to Esau “Your dwelling will be away from the earth’s richness, away from the dew of heaven above” (Genesis 27:39). “You will live by the sword and you will serve your brother. But when you grow restless, you will throw his yoke from off your neck” (Genesis 27:40). Esau held a grudge against his brother because of the blessing his father had given to Jacob. Esau said to himself “The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob” (Genesis 27:41). Song # 2348 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in Genesis chapter 27 that Jacob, with Rebekah his mother’s help, tricked his father Isaac into blessing him when Isaac thought he was blessing the older brother Esau. 
After Isaac had finished blessing him and Jacob had scarcely left his father’s presence, Jacob’s brother Esau came in from hunting (Genesis 27:30). Esau also prepared some tasty food and brought it to his father saying “Sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing” (Genesis 27:31). His father Isaac asked him “Who are you?” Esau answered “I am your son, your firstborn Esau” (Genesis 27:32). Isaac trembled violently and said “Who was it, then, that hunted game and brought it to me? I ate it just before you came and I blessed him - and indeed he will be blessed” (Genesis 27:33). When Esau heard his father’s words, he burst out with a loud and bitter cry and said to his father “Bless me - me too, my father” (Genesis 27:34). But Isaac said “Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing” (Genesis 27:35). Then Esau asked “Haven’t you reserved any blessing for me?” (Genesis 27:36). Isaac answered Esau “I have made him lord over you and all his relatives and servants” (Genesis 27:37). Esau said to his father “Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father!” Then Esau wept aloud (Genesis 27:38). 
Thought for today: we can’t see God’s hand, but we can trust His heart.

Song # 2338 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In Genesis chapter 26 we read that Isaac reopened the wells his father Abraham had dug in the Valley of Gerar. 
Issac moved to the Valley of Gerar and he settled there (Genesis 26:17). He reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died, and Isaac gave them the same names his father had given them (Genesis 26:18). Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and discovered a well of fresh water there (Genesis 26:19). But the herdsmen of Gerar quarrelled with Isaac’s herdsmen and said “The water is ours.” So Isaac named the well Esek, which means dispute, because they disputed with him (Genesis 26:20). Then they dug another well, but they quarrelled over that one also; so Isaac named it Sitnah which means opposition (Genesis 26:21). Isaac move on from there and dug another well, and no-one quarrelled over it. Isaac named it Rehoboth which means room, and said “Now the Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land” (Genesis 26:22). 
Thought for today: thank God for what you have, trust God for what you need. 
Thought for the future: now is the time to invest in heaven. Where will you spend your eternity?

Isaac and his wife Rebekah went up to Beersheba (Genesis 26:23). That night the Lord appeared to Isaac and said “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham” (Genesis 26:24). Isaac built an altar there and called on the name of the Lord. There he pitched his tent, and there his servants dug a well (Genesis 26:25). Meanwhile, Abimelech king of the Philistines had come to Isaac from Gerar with Ahuzzah his personal advisor and Phicol the commander of his forces (Genesis 26:26). Isaac asked them “Why have you come to me, since you were hostile to me and sent me away?” (Genesis 26:27). They answered “We saw clearly that the Lord was with you; so we said ‘There ought to be a treaty between us and you’” (Genesis 26:28), “so that you will do us no harm, and that you are blessed by the Lord” (Genesis 26:29). Isaac then made a feast for them, and they ate and drank (Genesis 26:30). Early next morning the men swore an oath to each other. Then Isaac sent them on their way, and they left him in peace (Genesis 26:31).

Abraham moved into the region of the Negev, and for a while he stayed in Gerar (Genesis 20:1), and there Abraham said of his wife Sarah “She is my sister.” Then Abimelech king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her (Genesis 20:2). But god came to Abimelech in a dream one night and said to him “You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken; she is a married woman” (Genesis 20:3). Now Abimelech had not gone near her, so he said “Lord” (Genesis 20:4), “did he not say to me ‘She is my sister’ and didn’t she also say ‘He is my brother’? I have done this with a clear conscience and clean hands” (Genesis 20:5). Then God said to him in the dream “Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against me. That is why I did not let you touch her” (Genesis 20:6). “Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live” (Genesis 20:7).

Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son (Genesis 22:13). So Abraham called that place ‘The Lord Will Provide’. And to this day it is said “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided” (Genesis 22:14). The Angel of the Lord called from heaven (Genesis 22:15) and said “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son” (Genesis 22:16), “I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies” (Genesis 22:17), “and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed because you have obeyed me” (Genesis 22:18). Abram had become very wealthy in livestock and in silver and gold (Genesis 13:2). From the Negev they went from place to place until they came near Bethel where his tent had been earlier (Genesis 13:3), and where he had first built an altar. There Abram called on the name of the Lord (Genesis 13:4). Now Lot, who was moving about with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents (Genesis 13:5). But the land could not support them while they stayed together for their possessions were so great (Genesis 13:6). Quarrelling arose between Abram’s herdsmen and the herdsmen of Lot. Also, the Canaanites and Perizzites were living in the land at that time (Genesis 13:7). So Abram said to Lot “Let’s not have any quarrelling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine” (Genesis 13:8). “Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left” (Genesis 13:9). Lot saw that the whole plain of Jordan was well watered (Genesis 13:10). So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out towards the east. So the two men parted company (Genesis 13:11). Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom (Genesis 13:12).

#2324- Abram And Lot Separate - (Genesis 13:1-12)

Song # 2322 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in 1 Kings chapter 12 that King Jeroboam made two golden calves for the people to worship. 
Jeroboam thought to himself “The kingdom is now likely to revert to the house of David” (1 Kings 12:26). “If these people go up to offer sacrifices at the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem, they will again give their allegiance to Rehoboam king of Judah” (1 Kings 12:27). After seeking advice, Jeroboam made two golden calves. He said to his people “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, oh Israel who brought you up out of Egypt” (1 Kings 12:28). One golden calf he set up in Bethel, the other in Dan (1 Kings 12:29). And this thing became a sin; the people went even as far as Dan to worship the one there (1 Kings 12:30). Jeroboam built shrines on high places and anointed priests from all sorts of people, even though they were not Levites (1 Kings 12:31). He instituted a festival like that in Judah, and offered sacrifices on the altar. This he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves he had made, and also installed priests at the high places he had made (1 Kings 12:32). 
Thought for today: the Lord is our Creator, and our Destroyer.

Song # 2321 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of 1 Kings we read in chapter 10 of Solomon’s great wisdom and his riches. 
Solomon received gold (1 Kings 10:14), from merchants and traders and from all the Arabian kings and the governors of the land (1 Kings 10:15). King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold (1 Kings 10:16), he also made three hundred small shields of hammered gold and he placed them in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon (1 Kings 10:17). Then the king made a great throne inlaid with ivory and overlaid with fine gold (1 Kings 10:18). The throne had six steps, and its back had a rounded top. On both sides of the seat were armrests with a lion standing beside each of them (1 Kings 10:19). Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at either end of each step. Nothing like it had ever been made for any other kingdom (1 Kings 10:20). All King Solomon’s goblets were gold and all the household articles in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. Nothing was made of silver, because silver was considered of little value in Solomon’s days (1 Kings 10:21). The king had a fleet of sailing ships at sea along with the ships of Hiram. Once every three years the fleet returned carrying gold, silver and ivory, and apes and baboons (1 Kings 10:22). King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth (1 Kings 10:23). The whole world sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart (1 Kings 10:24).

King Zimri reigned in Tirzah for seven days.
