[Already Dead Yet Alive

2 Corinthians 4:
7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;
9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struckdown, but not destroyed.
10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. (NIV)

[Already Dead Yet Alive

It is crucial evidence of our belief that Christ actually lives in us. The evidence of our belief is known by identifying our life and death as Christ’s life of glory and His death.

Paul illustrated the light in jars of clay oil lamps as his life. (7)

If we believe in these verses as God’s word the jars of clay are parabolized to our body where Jesus is.

I then would like to call your attention to Paul's belief of his life and death as Jesus’ glory and cross.

Paul thought that he had already died when he had met Jesus on the road of Damascus. But he was still alive.

The eight verbs of v. 8 and 9 are all passive forms: the four verbs (pressed, perplexed, persecuted and struck down) associated with his death. And the other four are strongly related to his life. 1)
Simply saying, he was in a death situation but was alive.
Paul knew that God allowed him to be in deadly agony but to be in life and not completely crushed. 2)

Furthermore he carries around in his body not the death of Jesus but the dying of Jesus, because the verb of Greek νέκρωσιν manifests the process of dying, so he experiences the life of Jesus and the process of Jesus’ dying. 3)
People couldn’t make Jesus die in his public life until His death on the cross. Because God had already ordained the time of Jesus’ death.

That’s why nobody can crush us before God’s timing of death.
Like Paul, we carry around in our body the dying of Jesus.
