Luke 10:38-42 (ESV) 38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

• It was Martha that invited Jesus into their house.
Luke 10:38 (ESV) 38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house.

• It was Martha that was serving Jesus.
Luke 10:40 (ESV) 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”
• It was Martha that complained about not having any help. (v. 40)
• God's Word says Martha was distracted by her serving. (v. 40)

• Jesus also said Martha was anxious and troubled by all this serving.
Luke 10:41 (ESV) 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,

• Mary sat at the Lord's feet and listening to His teaching.
Luke 10:39 (ESV) 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching.

• Jesus said this was the one necessary thing.
Luke 10:42 (ESV) 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
• It was "the good portion."
• It had permanence; it "will not be taken away from her."

• The importance of our relationship with the Master. One thing is necessary, and this is it!
• "Sitting at the Lord's feet and listening to His teaching" is anything that enhances our fellowship, our relationship with Him.

One Thing Is Necessary

• One thing is necessary. Your goal or resolution:
• Make it Attainable.
Proverbs 13:19 (ESV) 19 A desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul.

• Make it Measurable. An identifiable "target."
Ephesians 5:15-16 (ESV) 15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.

• Make yourself Accountable.
Proverbs 27:17 (ESV) 17 Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

• One thing is necessary, _______________ has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her[/him].
• And, of course, your Attainable, Measurable, Accountable goal.
