Sermon Oultine:

It is fulfilment of Old Testament promises

It is about King Jesus and His herald

It invites a response from the recipients

Reflection Questions

1. The birth of John and Jesus are the fulfilment of God’s promises – namely, the coming of the Messiah and His eternal kingdom. If Jesus has come to accomplish God’s great kingdom project in the world, what does it mean for our personal life project(s) today?

2. The parallelism between a disbelieving Zechariah (v20) and a submissive Mary (v38) reveals an “upside-down” character to God’s modus operandi – He chooses the insignificant to be significant in His kingdom purposes. What does that mean for the way (1) you see your contribution to kingdom service, and (2) who you might consider reaching out to, to “move them to the right?”
