GETTING STARTED
False teachers were teaching that Christ had already returned and because of this, Christians felt left behind and confused. In Paul’s first letter to Thessalonica, Paul addressed the Christians that they will know when Christ return because they will be caught up with Christ (1 Thessalonians 4). Paul reminds them that until the lawlessness man has been revealed, Christ will not return.
What is the most vile villain (anti-superhero)? Why?
How are anti-superheroes like the anti-Christ (man of lawlessness)?
WE WANT TO:
- Be alert on how the worldly culture is shaping Christians.
- Be prepared by knowing our Bible.
- Discern what lawlessness is in our current culture.

DISCUSS
1) Why are people so fixated on figuring out who the anti-Christ is? Why does it matter?
2) What would it mean if the Day of the Lord has already come? See 1 Thess 5:1-11.
3) How is the “spirit” of the anti-Christ in the world today? How is in the church? How is in our
lives?
4) See 2 Thess. 2:7-8. How is the Man of Lawlessness defeated? How can that defeat the
“spirit” of the Man of Lawlessness today? Explain.
5) If the Man of Lawlessness exalts himself in the “sanctuary” or temple, what ways does that
challenge God’s Kingdom today?
-What is in the temple? God’s law (10 commandments), God’s Sacrifice, God’s
presence.
-We see the subtle spirit of Lawless when we say:
-“Don’t tell me what to do” (God’s law)
-“A religion can’t fix our problems...religions made the problems we see today.”
(God’s Sacrifice)
-“I am a good person...good is within us all.” (God’s presence)
6) What comfort or hope can we find in this passage?
