Sermon Outline:

1. Don’t be a Pharisee: trusting in your Religious observance.

2. Don’t be a Scribe: trusting in your Legal obedience.

3. Be a Christian: trusting in Jesus for salvation from your sins.

Reflection question:
1. Are you aware of your sinfulness in a specific, personal, continual way? Do you agree that such an awareness is important? Why or why not?
2. What happens if we rely on our religiosity or moral-law keeping to be the basis of our assurance that we are “good” and “saved”?
3. How would we recognise if we are veering away from Jesus as the only basis for our salvation? How can we return to simple and exclusive faith in Jesus?
