The Word of God thru Parables

The Parable of the Great Supper

Luke 14: 15-24

Jesus tells this parable at the home of a prominent Pharisee when a guest at the dinner speaks up saying "Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the Kingdom of God." He tells this story to test his sincerity. The parable indicates that although we may have the best intentions of honoring our obligations to God, cares and concerns of Earthly life make their demands, and we put them first and offers our excuses to God. These examples of excuses given in the parable are insufficient and flimsy, touching on business and family commitments. This is as if to say we take care of our own interest and obligations first and hope that God will give us a second chance or invitation to be with Him.
