The Mark Of Compassion
LAink: Make Your Mark Part 4
March 28, 2010 ~ Luke 4:16-21

Luke 4:16-22 (NIV & NKJV)
Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. He taught in their synagogues, and everyone praised him. He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing. All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips."

How Can We Have A Heart Like Jesus?

1. We Must Care About What Jesus Cares About
Be full of love for others, following the example of Christ who loved you and gave himself to God as a sacrifice to take away your sins. Ephesians 5:2a (LB)

•The World
When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Matthew 9:36 (NIV)

•The Church
Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her Ephesians 5:25b (NKJV)

2. We Must Be Indifferent To What Jesus Is Indifferent To.
Jesus said to another man, Follow me! But he said, Lord, first let me go and bury my father. But Jesus said to him, Let the people who are dead bury their own dead. You must go and tell about the kingdom of God. Another man said, I will follow you, Lord, but first let me go and say good-bye to my family. Jesus said, Anyone who begins to plow a field but keeps looking back is of no use in the kingdom of God. Luke 9:59-62 (NCV)

•Jesus Was Indifferent To Impressing Others
Your approval or disapproval means nothing to me John 5:41a (LB)

•Jesus Was Indifferent To Getting Rich
Dont worry and say, What will we eat? or What will we drink? or What will we wear? The people who dont know God keep trying to get these things, and your Father in heaven knows you need them. The thing you should want most is Gods kingdom and doing what God wants. Then all these other things you need will be given to you. Matthew 6:31-33 (NCV)

3. We Must Get Angry At What Jesus Is Angry About
•When The Needs Of Children Go Unmet
When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, Let the children come to me. Dont stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. Mark 10:13-14 (NLT)

•When the Suffering Of Others Is Ignored
Jesus saidAnd you experts in the law, woe to you, because you load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them. Luke 11:46 (NIV)

4. We Must Sacrifice For What Jesus Sacrifices For
you were far from God. But Christ offered his lifes blood as a sacrifice and brought you near God. Ephesians 2:13 CEV)

For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men 1Timothy 2:5-6a (NIV)

He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds. Titus 2:14 (NLT)
