Pop Spirituality -- Part 6
July 20, 2008 ~ Galatians 6:7-10

Galatians 6:7-9
"Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

"Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith." Galatians 6:10 (NLT)

What's The Problem?

• People Aren't Naturally Good

"All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left God's paths to follow our own." Isaiah 53:6a (NLT)

Jesus said, "No one is good—except God alone." Mark 10:18 (NIV)

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 (NASB)

What's The Solution?

• True Goodness Only Comes From God

"For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him." Philippians 2:13 (NLT)

"People must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good..." Titus 3:14 (NIV)

How Can I Learn To Be Good?

1. I Can Get To Know God.
"Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 3:18 (NASB)

"The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives; it straightens us out and helps us do what is right." 2 Timothy 3:16 (LB)

2. I Can Watch What I Think About.
"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is clouded with evil thoughts and desires, you are in deep spiritual darkness. And oh, how deep that darkness can be!" Matthew 6:22&23 (NIV&LB)

"Brothers and sisters, think about the things that are good and worthy of praise. Think about the things that are true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected." Philippians 4:8 (NCV)

3. I Can Developing Strong Convictions.
"Hate what is evil; cling to what is good." Romans 12:9 (NIV)

"A person might have to suffer even when it is unfair, but if he thinks of God and stands the pain, God is pleased. If you are beaten for doing wrong, there is no reason to praise you for being patient in your punishment. But if you suffer for doing good, and you are patient, then God is pleased." 1 Peter 2:19-20 (NCV")

4. I Can Be Different From The World Around Me.
"Do not imitate what is evil but what is good." 3 John 1:11 (NIV)

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:2 (NIV)

5. I Can Learn From Other Followers Of Christ.
"Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another— and all the more as you see the Day approaching." Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV)

"So don't get tired of doing what is good. Don't get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time." Galatians 6:9 (NLT)
