"A Chance To Change Your Mind", Mark 16:14-20
One of the most difficult things in ministry is helping people to learn and accept something other than what they already believe. If there is an absence of thought on a particular subject and a person does not already have a made up mind, the subject and a hypothesis can be presented, the data acquired and arranged, reasoning and testing applied, and conclusions drawn. But if someone already believes something contrary to reason, before that person can learn, he must unlearn. This is the purpose of polemic preaching - to help people unlearn what they think they know in order to align their beliefs more closely to faith in Jesus Christ.

Jesus had instructed the 11 on the coming of His resurrection. Early one Sunday morning, the third day, He rose as He said He would. But those that had been closest to Him - His partners is service - did not believe the testimony of those who were witnesses to His resurrection. Why? They had never seen one come back from death on His own. They had made up minds. They believed what they chose to believe in spite of what He had taught them. This problem persists today for in spite of what Jesus said, we take it and fit it into our own story instead of fitting ourselves properly into THE STORY. But God always gives us repentance opportunity - a chance to change our thinking - and what we do or do not believe! We will never change what we do until we change what we believe.

My question to you today is are ready to take a chance to change your mind? Will you change your mind about what you think of, expect from, and will do in the service of Jesus Christ?

1. Herald The Savior v15
- Job one was to get to preaching - the gospel, not themselves. Too many peple with platforms are busy establishing personality cults around themselves instead of preaching Christ and Him Crucified. He told them to preach the gospel and far too much of what we think of as preaching is not the gospel! HE CAME. HE LIVED. HE DIED. HE WAS BURIED. HE ROSE. HE ASCENDED. HE'S COMING BACK!

2. Hear What He Said vv14-18
- Now this is going to be hard for some to hear. It's the polemic part. It's the part where you may have to unlearn what you think you already know. It's pretty obvious if you read the text. But that begs the question of whether we read the text or just believe what we want to believe.

Jesus appeared unto and rebuked the 11 because they did not believe. He appeared to the 11 here, not the multitude. What He said in this passage is for the 11, not for the multitude. Preach. Believe & be baptized or be condemned. Work signs and do the miraculous. This is for the 11, not the multitude. Too many of us think that what He said to them was being said to us. Not so. And really, I wish that it was to us. If it was, I would be in every hospital that I could reach, laying hands on COVID-19 patients and all the other sick to heal them. In fact, I challenge all those who think that this is for them, to go heal these sick folk. But you can't. Why? Because He wasn't talking to us! Hear the instructions given to them, but don't assume a place not given to you. THEY ARE THE APOSTLES AND DIRECTLY CONTINUED THE MINISTRY OF JESUS IN THE EARTH. Our mission is similar, not the same.

3. Help Somebody v20
- This is the doing. If you're not helping someone, you're not serving anyone. Whatever your gift set, the Lord will work with you. You can do what He told YOU to do! That's how it works in the kingdom. Do what the King said and help somebody! Somebody has no hope! Somebody has no joy! Somebody has no love! Somebody needs the Lord above! Tell somebody!
