The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of sense.
The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.
Proverbs 10:18-22
18 Whoever conceals hatred with lying lips
and spreads slander is a fool.
19 Sin is not ended by multiplying words,
but the prudent hold their tongues.
20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver,
but the heart of the wicked is of little value.
21 The lips of the righteous nourish many,
but fools die for lack of sense.
22 The blessing of the Lord brings wealth,
without painful toil for it.
Today’s title is “A Tongue That Brings Blessings”
The book of Proverbs gives us much practical wisdom. The righteous use of the tongue is certainly the most prominent one of them. It is repeated throughout the book of the Proverbs. In fact, it is repeated throughout the Bible. The Bible highly emphasizes the importance of the right use of the tongue. Today's passage says that the tongue of the righteous is choice silver. In other places, it even says that life and death, and the blessings and curses all depend on our lips. So how should we use our tongue to receive life and blessings? I will summarize it in the three most important lessons. First, learn how to hold your tongue. Be quick to listen, but be very slow to speak. Do not rush to talk. Don't let your tongue say whatever and whenever it will. Hold your tongue as much as you can. This is the first and foremost instruction of the Bible regarding tongues. Today's passage warns against multiplying words and gossiping and spreading slanders. This is one of the consistent themes of the Bible. Secondly, use your tongues positively. Use it to encourage and bless others. Today's passage tells us to use your tongue to nourish many. Use it to praise God. Never use it the other way around. Your tongue can become the most polluted part of your body. It likes to curse, complain, and ridicule. You have to conscientiously restrain it to be used for edifying and godly purposes. Don't let it slip away as it will. It can bring disaster and destruction. Thirdly, use your tongue truthfully, but with humility. Be honest in all circumstances. But don't be proud of it. Stating the truth is good. But when you state it pridefully, you diminish the power of it or even draws a negative response. Bible says that the tongue is most wicked in our body. We all make many mistakes in our words. I am no exception. But with a few good uses of tongues, we can receive a lot of blessings too. I pray that all of us bring s lot more blessings by consistently using tongues wisely according to God's wisdom. May your tongues bring greater blessings to you, your family, and to God. Amen.
