Today we have the honor of recognizing the Lord’s ordination on Alex Hernandez as a pastor within Shoreline. If this is new to you, here at Shoreline we largely consider pastors and elders as synonymous and this section of the Shoreline Pastor and Elders Handbook may help you understand why we are recognizing Alex publicly:

While not seen in the few mentions of appointing elders in the New Testament, it has become tradition to anoint new pastor elders with oil before the church. It is a beautiful symbolic continuity of the anointing of the first High Priest, Aaron, with oil as a symbolic conveyance of holiness from God and being set apart by God. It is a reminder that the elder serves our holy God, and it is good for all to witness His reminder of that truth.

In Shoreline, we see the public ordination of an elder is similar to witnessing wedding vows. In that moment, Shoreline acknowledges the commission of God upon the man, he acknowledges his commitment to serve and feed Shoreline, and all confess the love of Jesus for His bride.

So please rejoice and celebrate with us today as we recognize the ordination of God upon one of our own.
