Be Not Deceived
Deuteronomy 11:16-19
INTRODUCTION: Ever since the garden in Eden, the Devil has been working overtime to keep people deceived. Those who are unsaved pay the horrible cost of an eternity in the lake of fire, but for those who are saved, the Devil seeks to rob us of the rewards the Lord desires to grant for our faithfulness.
I. THE AGENTS OF DECEPTION (Deuteronomy 11:16)
A. Self
1. Let no man deceive himself (1 Corinthians 3:18).
2. If a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself (Galatians 6:3).
3. Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves (James 1:22).
4. If a man’s religion is vain, he deceiveth his own heart (James 1:26).
5. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves (1 John 1:8).
B. Spirits (1 Timothy 4:1)
C. Others

3. Transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13).
4. They lie in wait to deceive (Ephesians 4:14).
5. They deceive with vain words (Ephesians 5:6).
6. They spoil through philosophy and vain deceit (Colossians 2:8).
7. There are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers (Titus 1:10).
II. THE DESIRED OUTCOMES OF DECEPTION (Deuteronomy 11:16-17)
A. A Turning Aside (Deuteronomy 11:16)
1. Some depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits (1 Timothy 4:1).
2. Tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine (Ephesians 4:14).
B. Receiving of God’s Judgment (Deuteronomy 11:17)
1. Let no man deceive you with vain words, because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience (Ephesians 5:6).
2. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit (Colossians 2:8).
III. THE PROTECTOR FROM DECEPTION (Deuteronomy 11:18-19)
A. Personal Time in the Word (Deuteronomy 11:18)
B. Passing Along the Word (Deuteronomy 11:19)
CONCLUSION: What is the Devil doing to deceive you? How does he work on your mind to take you away from the simplicity of the truth?
