Focus: Spiritual leadership
Text: 1 Timothy 6:20 – 21
GUARD WHAT WAS COMMITTED TO YOUR TRUST!
(1 Timothy 6:20 – 21)
1. To diligently guard that which have been entrusted
a. The gospel (1 Timothy 1:11)
i. Knowledge of the gospel
ii. Faith in the gospel
b. The faith (1 Timothy 1:18 – 19)
i. The teaching of faith according to the Scriptures
ii. This has been rejected by false teachers
iii. This faith must be defended!
c. The ministry of the church
i. To instruct (1 Timothy 4:6a)
ii. To be a good minister of Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 4:6b)
iii. To nourish the church in the words of faith and of good doctrine
(1 Timothy 4:6c)
iv. To reject that which is false and profane (1 Timothy 4:7)
v. To lead by example (1 Timothy 4:12)
vi. To diligently develop ministerial gifts to serve the Lord faithfully
(1 Timothy 4:14 – 16)
2. To avoid at all cost
a. That which is falsely called “Knowledge”
b. This knowledge is nothing more than
i. Idle babbling
ii. Contradictions
c. Those who profess this knowledge
i. They have strayed
ii. They have turned away from the faith
3. Grace be with you
a. The grace of God sought
b. The grace of God needed to succeed!
GREAT CHALLENGES
1. Much is expected of a spiritual leader
2. A spiritual leader has been entrusted with much
3. We are challenged to diligently guard all that we have been entrusted with!
