Text: 2 Corinthians 4:16 – 18

WE DO NOT LOSE HEART

1. This was the second time Paul spoke of not losing heart

2. Paul did not lose heart

a. In experiencing challenges in ministry (2 Corinthians 4:1)

b. In experiencing afflictions in life (2 Corinthians 4:16)

3. The problem of “losing heart” is very real!

a. Many give up easily in life and ministry

b. Many are discouraged by the problems of life

HOW PAUL WAS ABLE TO NOT LOSE HEART

1. Having a strong spiritual perspective of life (2 Corinthians 4:16)

a. Accepting that our outward man is perishing

i. The external

ii. The physical being

iii. We are physically perishing day by day

b. Renewal of the inward man

i. Our spiritual being

ii. There can be daily renewal of the inward man through seeking the Lord

iii. A strong spirit of faith cultivated (2 Corinthians 4:13)

iv. Praying for strength in the inward man (Ephesians 3:16)

2. Having an eternal perspective (2 Corinthians 4:17 – 18)

a. The physical realm

i. The physical life

ii. This is temporary

iii. We will have to endure “Light affliction”

iv. This is but for a moment…will not last forever

b. The eternal realm (2 Corinthians 4:14 – 15)

i. The glory of eternal life in view!

ii. We will one day be raised up with Jesus in the resurrection

iii. We will be presented before God

iv. The eternal glory will be received by all who persevere in their faith in Christ to the end!

CHALLENGES

1. To develop a strong faith perspective if life

a. Spiritual life

b. Eternal life

2. To not lose heart

a. Develop steadfastness of faith

b. Develop perseverance
