Text: 1 Corinthians 11:2

REVIEW

(1 Corinthians 11:1)

1. The call to imitate the Apostle Paul

a. In his love for Christ and the Church

b. In his spirit of faith

c. In his zeal in serving the Lord

2. “As I also imitate Christ”

a. Paul followed the example of Christ closely

b. Paul had Christ as his greatest example in his life and ministry!

c. There are many lessons we can learn from Paul to cultivate a Christ-centered life and ministry!

KEEPING AND PRACTISING THE TRADITIONS OF FAITH IN CHRIST

(1 Corinthians 11:2)

1. “Now I praise you, brethren”

a. There were many areas the Corinthians had to be corrected in

b. It is refreshing to read a word of commendation given

i. There were some in the Church who remained as true brethren in Christ!

ii. They were praised by Paul

iii. They were to be commended and encouraged!

2. “That you remember me in all things”

a. They did not forget the things that Paul taught them

b. They remembered his example of life and ministry in Christ

c. They must not be afraid to imitate Paul for he imitates Christ! (1 Corinthians 11:1)




3. “And keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you”

a. There were brethren among the Corinthians who kept these traditions Paul delivered to them!

b. The traditions are a reference to the teachings and practice of faith

c. These traditions were passed down from the apostles to the Churches

d. The keeping of these traditions will guard them from corruption and going astray

e. The strongest of Churches are not immune to corruption and straying
(Cf. Acts 20:25 – 32)

4. The traditions of the Apostles (2 Thessalonians 2:15)

a. In all the doctrines that have been taught

b. In word (Preaching and teaching ministry)

c. In epistles (The doctrines in the written letters of Paul)

d. In the practice of Christian faith

5. The challenge to stand fast and hold firm to these traditions

a. To be steadfast in the teachings of the Apostles

b. To hold firm to the truth of God’s word taught

c. Strong reasons given (2 Thessalonians 2:13 – 15)

i. Our salvation from God

ii. Our sanctification by the Spirit of God

iii. Our faith in the truth

iv. Our calling in Christ

GREAT CHALLENGES

1. To watch over our Church in much prayer

2. To continue hold fast to what we have been taught

3. To give thanks to God

a. For all who have remained faithful to the Lord and His word all these years

b. For all who continue to support the Lord’s work at Bethel!
