Text: 1 Corinthians 15:20 – 28

FIRM FAITH IN THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST
(1 Corinthians 15:20)

1. That Christ has indeed risen from the dead

2. That Christ has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep

a. Those who have fallen asleep

i. A reference to those who have died with their faith in Christ

ii. They will awake to eternal life!

b. Christ is the firstfruits of those who have died

i. Christ has been resurrected

ii. When Christ returns the dead in Him will be resurrected!

A THEOLOGICAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE RESURRECTION

1. By man (Adam) (1 Corinthians 15:21 – 22)

a. Adam was the first man created by God

b. Through Adam came sin

c. Because of sin, came death

2. By Man (Christ) (1 Corinthians 15:21 – 22)

a. Christ came into the world as a man

b. Through Christ’s death came salvation for mankind

c. Because of Christ’s salvation man is saved from death

d. Through the resurrection of Christ, man has hope in being resurrected!

3. Christ the firstfruits (1 Corinthians 14:23)

a. As Christ resurrected from the dead, He became the “Firstfruits”

b. Just as the full harvest will be like the firstfruits, all believers will one day experience the resurrection of Christ!

c. The resurrection of the dead will occur when Christ returns!

4. The Second Coming of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:24 – 25)

a. He will deliver the kingdom to God the Father

b. He will put an end to all rule and all authority and power

c. He will reign as the King of kings and the Lord of lords

d. He will defeat all His enemies

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF OUR FAITH IN THE RESURRECTION

1. The power of God over sin

2. The power of God over death

3. The power of God over Satan

CHALLENGES

1. To stand firmly in our belief in the doctrine of the resurrection

2. To live triumphantly in our faith in the Risen Savior!
