Romans 15 Notes: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2ekbnb07dmht7dd/AAA1_5kto9-dZGRj_9ebnzSCa?dl=0

Verse 1: Paul is praising Phoebe for her service to the Church. Cenchreae is a port in Corinth. She is referred to here as “servant.” Which is the same Greek word used for deacon. With that being said, Paul could have been saying she was a literal deacon in the church, or just a good servant for fellow believers in general. Nonetheless, it doesn’t change the meaning. Regardless, she can still be a good servant without holding a position in the church.
Verse 2: Now Paul asks for the Church to welcome and help Phoebe. We must welcome others in a worthy way, and help anyone regardless of who they are. As we see here, Phoebe has helped many people and these people are going to help her. It should be like that in the Church always. We should strive to mutually uplift and help others. (Romans 14:19)
Verses 3-4: Prisca and Aquila have been mentioned many times in Paul’s letters and in Acts. He says how they’ve risked their lives for him and he thanks them for what they’ve done. As always, we should be willing to risk things for fellow believers, even our lives as Christ has done.
Verse 5: He is greeting the church that is within their house, they probably had to hold church services within the household of Prisca and Aquila due to persecution. Epaenetus is mentioned because of his prominence among converts in Asia. Look how far the Gospel was reaching! Paul didn’t go very far into Asia, so this is probably referring to Turkey.
Verse 6: Mary, who has worked hard for the Roman Church. This is definitely not the Mary who was Christ’s mother, but nonetheless a prominent woman. She had a great work ethic and Paul recognizes her for that. This doesn’t mean she served as a pastor or anything, though.
