Lord, Come and Save Us (Psalm 146)
Words by Lionel Valdellon and Rica Bolipata Santos
Music by Lionel Valdellon and Palan Reyes
Arrangement by Gino Torres
Featuring Maan Villanueva

We have all known, in various ways, hunger and captivity, injustice and abandonment. To believe in God is to trust that we will be delivered from all these, and more. To fill our hunger, to be freed from captivity, to be granted justice, we have no recourse but the Lord.
"Lord, Come and Save Us" paraphrases Psalm 146: 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Psalm 146 sings that those who trust in God know what it means to be happy. It asks the liberating power of God to transform and shape us.

The antiphon or refrain is adapted from Isaiah 35: 4. Isaiah 35: 1-10 is the Old Testament Reading on Monday of the 2nd Week of Advent. Isaiah 35: 1-6, 10 is the First Reading on the 3rd Sunday of Advent, Year A. Lastly, Isaiah 35: 4-7 is the Hebrew Scripture Reading on the 23rd Sunday, Year B.

This musical setting is formally appointed as the Responsorial Psalm on the Third Sunday of Advent, Year A.

Take note that in Book of the Readings (Lectionary), when Psalm 146 is used in Ordinary Time, the response varies from this setting, and there are missing verses. "Lord, Come and Save Us" remains an appropriate Entrance, Communion, or Recessional Song during these weeks of Ordinary Time. The Psalm is also appropriate during the entire Advent Season.
