When a Presbyterian congregation elects elders and deacons to lead the church, they are not supposed to decide based on what they like or even what they think best. They are supposed to work together prayerfully to discern God's will. For that matter, the nominating process for elders and deacons is supposed to prayerfully discern the ones God is calling to these ministries. And perhaps the apostle Paul can be of help in understanding just what it means to be called, as well as what it means to let Christ work through you.
