In this sermon Bob DeWaay starts from the bedrock truth that what God has bound under the New Covenant is binding on all
Christians. However, Paul also addresses issues that arise because some believers are troubled by
matters that are in fact not forbidden by God. This section deals with some of them, including foods.
Paul uses the terms “weak” and “strong” but not meaning “desirable” and “undesirable.” Many matters
that were dictated by God under the Old Covenant are not so bound under the New. We must allow
people to have differences and not allow religious authorities to dictate what God has given as Christian
liberty. For example, the term “unclean” is not used about objects or foods under the New Covenant.
Holiness is applied to redeemed people, not objects. We give instruction from the Bible about accepting
one another.
