for the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed over, that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.” - Joshua 4:23-24, NKJV

TRANSCRIPT:
Children love to hear stories. Their imaginations help these stories to come to life for them in ways too many adults have forgotten about. They particularly love to hear "their" stories... stories about their life when they were smaller, stories about when Mommy or Daddy or Grandma or Uncle Bill were little...

These stories are how we pass along our family's history. We teach them what is important to us and what helped to shape who we became... and therefore, who they are in the world.

Joshua was doing the same thing. By reminding the Children of Israel about the miracle at the Red Sea, he was reminding them of their unique place in the world. They were chosen, from all the peoples in the world, to be the way in which God worked His will and way upon the world.

What about your story? Are you taking the time to remember all the ways in which God has acted in your personal history? By taking the time to remember each of the ways, big and small, that He has worked in your life, you honor that work. And when you tell the stories of His work in your life to your children, you teach them how to watch for and see His hand in their day to day life.
