A live discussion of "Day Texts" for Tuesday, January 29, 2019 — Hebrews 1:1-6 (Greek) from The Great Message translation:
1:1 In different places and in various ways, in ancient times God was the one who spoke to the forefathers by means of the prophets.
1:2 During the time of these last days, God spoke to us by means of a son, whom he made [or, "placed"] an heir of all things, by whom he also made the ages.
1:3 He exists as the brightness of God's glory and an imprint of God's spirit being, and he brings forth [or, "carries"] all things with his word of power. He makes sinners clean, after which he sat down next to the right hand of the Greatness [referring to God] in high places.
1:4 He became so much better than the angels, better in the sense that he has inherited a name that is different [or, "more excellent"] from them.
1:5 For to which of the #angels did he ever say, "You are my Son. I, today, I have generated you." And again, "I will become as a Father to him and he will become as a #Son to me."
1:6 But whenever he again introduces the #Firstborn [see note] into the inhabited world he says, "All angels of God must bow in royal homage to him" [see note].
[Note on 1:6, “the Firstborn”: Greek: ton prôtotokon, showing Jesus is "the" real "Firstborn" of God, not "placed" or "made" a firstborn in place of another who is actually God's real “Firstborn.” See Deuteronomy 21:17, where we are given a definition for “firstborn,” namely, “the beginning of [the F/father’s] generative power.”]
