At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored him who lives forever,

for his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
and his kingdom endures from generation to generation;
all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing,
and he does according to his will among the host of heaven
and among the inhabitants of the earth;
and none can stay his hand
or say to him, “What have you done?”

At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and splendor returned to me. My counselors and my lords sought me, and I was established in my kingdom, and still more greatness was added to me. Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble. — Daniel 4:34-37

So there are two questions we will have about this text.

The first is this. Is this a declaration of Nebuchadnezzar's salvation? The simple answer is that we don't know because this is the end of the narrative about him. It's all we have. And we have seen him flip-flop before, but we have no real evidence of where this confession will take him. What we know is that Nebuchadnezzar is portrayed as the greatest villain in the entire bible. His wickedness is referenced in six different books of the bible, and he is described as vehemently opposed to God every time. But here's the deal, saved or not, we don't need to worry about this. This unsettled issue of the past is not the more significant question. The bigger question is this: Do you believe that God is God? Will you surrender to him and let him be King, Savior, and Lord of you? That's the only question that matters. It's the only one that needs to be answered. And you can do that today. You can make that decision now and stop fighting with the God of all Gods. You can proclaim him King of Kings and Lord of Lords and let him lead your life today. But you will have to surrender doing life your way and do it his way — forever. If you are ready to do that, I would love for you to reach out to me. You can contact me directly at this link: https://beresolute.org/contact/.

But there's a second question I have about this text. It's a question that many miss. It's this. What was Daniel doing for those seven years? What was he doing? Please note if he was the number two guy, while number one had lost his mind and was stumbling around out in the wilderness with wild animals, what's Daniel doing? He is set up to march the capital and take over the throne. But he doesn't. So do you know what I think he's doing? It's a guess. But I am sure I am right. He's being faithful. He's being obedient. He's serving faithfully while God is teaching the number one a timeless lesson. He isn't number one, and no man can be number one. So we never see him play God. He just faithfully follows God.

That's the lesson we learned today. Don't play God. Just follow God.

ASK THIS: How have you been playing God? Are you ready to stop and surrender to God?

DO THIS: If you are ready, reach out to me today.

PRAY THIS: God, I surrender all to you.

PLAY THIS: I Surrender All.
