The Washington Monument, at 555 feet, is the tallest public structure in Washington, DC, and is located on the National Mall. It took thirty-six years, from 1848 to 1884, to build, and until the Eiffel Tower in Paris was erected, the Washington Monument was the tallest in the world.

But did you know that in Exodus 28:36 (NRSV), God instructed Hebrew priests to inscribe the words “Holy to the LORD” on their breastplates? This phrase appears on two memorial stones inside the Washington Monument. Another memorial stone, from the Sabbath School Children of the Methodist E. Church in Philadelphia, inscribed Luke 17:16 and Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (KJV).
