Message from Pastor Tim Amor at Beatrice Mennonite Church on April 3, 2016. From the series "The Return of the King." This is the second message in the series and it goes through Thomas' response to Jesus' resurrection as found in John 20.
"Faith in Doubt" goes through Thomas' story where he did not believe the story the other disciples told him - that Jesus had risen from the dead. Thomas needed more than just someone else's word on it - he needed to see and experience things for himself.
Though Thomas doubted, he continued to remain a faithful disciple, and the other disciples continued to embrace Thomas as a member of their group. Then Jesus showed up - and after Thomas saw Jesus, he was all in. He believed and followed fully.
It is okay for us to have doubts - in fact, doubts can lead us to deeper faith. God does not abandon us when we doubt.
Let's be a community where we can talk about our doubts and questions together. Let's be a place where those who have doubts and questions are welcomed. Let's be a place where we can build up each other's faith together.
As you wrestle with your doubts, may you come to know Jesus fully and deeply, and may your faith continue to grow as you follow Jesus in all areas of your life.
