FINISHING WELL
II Timothy 4:6-8
Paul was a chosen vessel and also the Lord reminded that Paul will suffer for Christ's sake.
Now here he is in a cold prison, away from the people of God and in this letter he reveals his love for his Saviour and people of God.
Paul is ready to meet his Saviour also he is willing to forgive all those that did him wrong.
vs.16 Paul expresses his abandonment.
May we be encouraged by this that though many forsake us may we be focused on the Word of God.
It's wonderful to see that Paul did not fear death, during this time of crisis we need not fear death for death is only temporal for a believer.
1) Paul and his death. (vs.6)
Offer and departure reminds us of the faith of Paul.
(i) Offer.
Paul says he has given his life as a offering to God. Romans 12:1-2
Is your life a living sacrifice?
Paul reminds us that our life must be a living sacrifice, he was not afraid of death.
How wonderful would it be if each and every believer lived a life without regrets like Paul?
We have our strengths and weaknesses but if we walk with God, God will give us the victory!
Therefore as we walk with God may we be pure before God, may our lives be that sacrifice.
(ii) Departure.
Paul reminds Timothy that at this time of departure he is going to a higher calling.
Paul's eyes were fixed upon the Saviour, he says that he bore many burdens and death is now oppened up to him and he is ready.
So often when you walk with God you know the time of your departure, a time when you leave all your burdens behind.
2) Paul and his dedication. (vs.7)
We need to have a purpose to live for and Paul had a purpose to live for and that is he lived for Christ.
Philippians 1:21
For a believer death is not a loss, death is a gain and that's what Paul say's his purpose was to glorify Christ, his dedication was so great.
Paul reminds Timothy to fight the battle with faith, when you commune with God and meditate upon His Word He will strengthen you during your spiritual battles.
2 Corinthians 11.
Many start well but do not finish well(Demas) some get saved but because they face difficulties they turn away from God.
God takes us through the fiery furnace that we may come forth as gold.
May we live a life of dedication unto the Lord even as we do not know the time of His coming.
The stage is being set for the coming of Christ and as Christians are we ready?
Let not the things that surround us scare us for we are sealed by the holy spirit of God.
Paul's whole life was centered on Christ, Christ was his anchor, he was willing to die for Christ.
Galatians 6:17
What an impact would the Christians have on this nation if Churches and Pulpits and pews were filled with men like Paul.
3) Paul and his destiny. (vs.8)
Paul had great confidence in God.
We need to have that faith that Paul had, we would have to stand before God and he would asses each of us.
Paul had this confidence that he ran this course successfully.
The coming of the Lord Jesus Christ must motivate us to live a life of Holiness, Paul was looking forward to the coming of the Lord.
Paul's motive for living was the return of Christ.
What is your motive to walk with Christ?
Is that your motive to walk with Christ?
Christian would you have a crown to leave at the feet of Jesus?
Christian don't be worried of the things of the world but keep your eyes upon Him.

2 Timothy 4:6-8
[6] For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
[7] I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
[8] Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
