Paul is addressing issues in the church that pertained primarily in the culture of that day. In first century Rome, a woman’s head covering was a sign of marriage, and evidently some married women in the church who were active in the church didn’t hold true to this tradition. While in our culture today, this is no issue, there is a core issue that ultimately, is an underlying problem in all cultures and that is relativism stands against God’s order. As Paul gets into the meat of the issue, he begins with a foundational truth that is not negotiable.
