Introduction- Israel’s Habit of Backsliding
Israel had a pattern of falling away from God and coming back to him. In verse 14 Jeremiah says Turn, O backsliding children. This turn or turning means to depart from your wicked ways and turn back toward God.
POINT ONE- What does the bible mean by Backsliding?
Here the word backsliding literally means a “Falling away.” A falling away from God. The Greek word used in the New Testament is apostasia, from where we get our word apostasy.
POINT TWO- It is God’s will that the backslider be restored.
POINT THREE- We have to make the first step.
POINT FOUR- Many people have fallen away.
-Because of the times that we live in, not being able to go to church as we like, many people have fallen back into sin.
POINT FIVE-He is Married to the Backslider
14 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:
Conclusion- Time to Return to God
I say that to those out there that have fallen away from the Lord or that has not be as diligent as you used to be. You have been putting the things of the world ahead of the things of God. Come let us return to the Lord. When you come to the Lord you must come just as you are.
Just as I am, without one plea, But that Thy blood was shed for me, And that Thou bid’st me come to Thee, O Lamb of God, I come! I come!
The Lord says in verses 22 Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the Lord our God.
