*Public Confession of Sin:
Our Father, you are the Lord of hosts who gave us that divinely-inspired word in which you reveal yourself and with which you revive our souls and by which you rejoice our hearts. We have sinned by not prizing this treasure as it ought to be prized. Our interest has waned, our diligence has flagged, and our devotion has faltered. Have we not undervalued its worth, exposed it to dishonor, and often stood by as it was made less prominent? Your words are more desirable than gold, yet we have not esteemed their merit. Your words are sweeter than honey, yet we have not relished their savor. Your words are more beneficial than all the world’s learning, yet we have not sought their wisdom. How gracious for you to provide the reading, preaching, and hearing of the Scriptures. Yet, we have handled them without care, listened to them without interest, examined them without focus, and misapplied them without concern. We have no defense and can only plead for mercy. Please forgive us for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Minister: What is your only comfort in life and in death?
Unison: That I, with body and soul, both in life and in death, am not my own, but belong to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ, who with His precious blood has fully satisfied for all my sins, and redeemed me from all the power of the devil; and so preserves me that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that all things must work together for my salvation. Wherefore, by His Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live unto Him.
